Kirk stepped off the transporter pad on DSB and headed straight for the Command Deck. Intelligence officers had always rubbed Kirk the wrong way; it could have been because of time spent with the Borg. Most officers did not mind working with or under a former drone, but most Intelligence officers felt it could be a breach of security. Through out his career he had run into problems with promotions because of unknown stoppages in the chain of command. It eventually took the President of the Federation and his influence to get the intelligence branch of Starfleet off Kirk’s back.
Walking past a porthole Kirk spotted the Darkhawk as it headed off on its mission. He wished he could be on that mission; Genesis was something that had always intrigued Kirk and now he was not going to see it because of an intelligence officer.
Kirk stepped onto the Command Deck in a bad mood. He was not looking forward to this conversation at all. Just as he had done with Caspian, Kirk simply walked into the Commander’s office on the Command deck.
“Alright Commander, what was so important you had to pull me away from mission?” Kirk asked.

Fenel paced sickbay intently waiting for any news. She'd heard the warning about Caspain's escape and waited patiently for any injured, anything, but that had been half an hour ago and she had heard nothing.
The doors to the infirmary swung open and an officer enterd carrying a man Fenel did not recougnise untill he was layed out on the biobed. "Captain!" she exclaimed, his tunic was bloody and his face pale.
"What happend!?" she asked, gesturing frantically to Willow to bring her a full med kit as she fumbled with the tricorder in her hand, shaking so much she could hardly get it open.
"Single phaser shot to the chest, set to kill." The Tactical (or so she assumed) officer replied, whipeing blood off his shoulder.
"Kill!" Fenel exclaimed "who, why!?"
"Commander Ikar, it was an accident mame, he had it set to stun but it malfunctioned.
Malfunctioned my pips Fenel thrught angrily. "He's suffering from massive blood lose, damage to the lungs and heart as well as shock." she called out to willow. "Give me a large dose of Rexaline, and Phetetelin."
Willow passed her two hyposprays which Fenel immediatly administerd. "Here's the Dermal regenerator."
Fenel took the instrument and desperatly sought to heal the organs before further bledding could occur. Sweat began to bead on her forhead. "Do you havew to be herre!" she snapped at the Tactical officer who was hovering over her.
"I'm under orders to make sure he doesn't go anywhere, he escaped once he may do so again." The officer replied hotly.
"he isn't in any condition to go anywhere!" Fenel roared, get out of my way!" the Tactical officer backed up and stood by the door.
"He's flat-linning!" Willow said, pointing at the biobed's scanners.
"The defribulator, hurry!" Fenel orderd.
Within minutes which seemed like hours the Captain's heart resummed beating and Fenel was able to continue the delicate surgery.
"I'm keeping him here under observation, if Commander Ikar has a problem with that, fine, I'll file a complaint to Star Fleet about his disregard for the welbeing of those under his command. He's going to be in a force field, but I will need constant acess to him to continue treatments." Fenel told the tactical officer who insisted on staying.
Fenel rapped on her comm badge so hard it bruised her chest =A= Commander Ikar I want to speak with you in the infirmary now! =A=

Just as Kirk approached the Base Commander’s office on the Command Deck Kirk heard a com badge communication through the rather hallow doors. It was Fenel the base’s Chief Medical Officer, he had never met her but heard a lot about her due to the quick way she saved hundreds of lives during the attack from the Borg only weeks ago.
Stepping down and standing next to the Base Operation Officer Kirk inquired about what was going on that would caused Fenel to talk to Ikar in such a manner.
“We just got a report in that Captain Caspian was shot and captured, he was then taken to sickbay to be treated.” Informed the officer.
“Thank you.” Kirk said turning around to watch Commander Ikar burst through his doors and speed off to the nearest turbo lift.
Kirk ran up the stairs and jumped into the second turbo lift on the Command Deck, heading for sickbay also. Kirk had heard Caspian was put on probation, but relieved of Command and now shot while escaping, this was insanity. What the hell is going on here? Kirk thought.
After a short ride on the turbo lift Kirk bolted off toward sickbay. Looking around as he walked briskly through the corridors Kirk could not locate Commander Ikar anywhere. Walking through the sliding doors into sickbay Kirk spotted Fenel a few nurses, a marine security officer, and Caspian laying on a bio bed in the back of sickbay.
“Your weapon Marine.” Kirk said still looking at the bio bed.
“Sir?” The Marine replied.
“I said give me your weapon, your relieved.” Kirk said more firmly this time.
The Marine reluctantly handed over his phaser and walked out of the room. Kirk had a funny feeling the intelligence community had something to do with this, too many crazy things had happened in the last few days to actually be real coincidental events.
“How is he doctor?” Kirk asked placing the phaser on the counter next to Fenel's office.

"not well, I stopped the bleeding and repaired the damage, but that was almost a fatal shot. His heart's never going to be the same again and he's still got a ways to go before he can fully recover." Fenel replied angryly. "I want a full investigation into this Captain, Star Fleet Intelligence be damned, phaser just don't falfunction so convinently.
"You think Commander Ikar did this on purpose." Kirk asked.
"I'd bet my career on it." Fenel replied
"Well that's good then, you're prepared for the consequence of messing with Intelligence." Krik laughed bittery. "I heard you are on probation."
"That's correct although to be honest I have no idea why." Fenel sighed. "I thought your ship had headed out all ready, what happened?"

"I thought your ship had headed out all ready, what happened?" Fenel asked.
“We did leave. Just after we went to warp we received a communication from Commander Ikar stating he wanted me back on DSB and that is was an Omega Priority emergency,” Kirk said looking around sickbay, “Once I caught wind of your communication with Ikar I had an operations officer inform me that Captain Caspian had been captured after being shot with a phaser set on stun. Once I heard that I hurried myself down here before Ikar could show up. I have a bad feeling about that man.”
Just as Kirk finished his sentence Commander Ikar walked through the doors of sickbay. He stood in the doorway shocked to see Captain Kirk talking with Doctor Fenel. The look of shock was obvious to both Kirk and Fenel who exchanged curious looks before Ikar regained his composure.
”Why was that guard relieved of duty?” Ikar asked sternly.
“Why was Caspian shot?” Kirk fired back.
“He was not shot, the report that found it’s way to my desk stated the phaser overloaded.” Ikar said with a slight smile.
“Funny how that does not seem to fit the same story I got from one of the base operations officers on the Command Deck. He read me a report from the Marines that Caspian was shot while trying to escape,” Kirk paused for a second to let it sink into Ikar’s head, “Why would Caspian be trying to escape from anywhere? Was he under arrest?”
“Captain Kirk, I called you back simply to inform you that you have been relieved of duty,” Ikar said with a smug look on his face, “You must report to your quarters until a shuttle has arrived to take you back to Earth for your trial.”
Kirk stepped forward showing Ikar he that he was not going to be going anywhere. Ikar looked at Kirk with shock, never has a regular Starfleet Officer ever stood up to the orders from a Starfleet Intelligence Officer.
“Ikar you will have to show me the orders before I step down. Besides you do not out rank me and the only person who can relieve me of command is an Admiral. I do not see any Admirals around right now, so I suggest you leave this base at once before I have you arrested for disrupting station operations.” Kirk said crossing his arms.
Commander Ikar stood for a second thinking about this next plan of action. It did not take him long before words started to flow from his mouth, “You want orders I shall get you your orders.” Ikar said with a smile.
“Then you can also show me why I am to be on trial.” Kirk said stepping closer to Ikar.
“Don’t you worry, I will bring back those orders and the charges against you and Captain Caspian. Once I get done with you two, and you doctor!” Ikar said pointing at Fenel, “You all will spend the rest of your lives working slave labor on a Klingon dilithium Mining Camp!”
Ikar stormed out of sickbay leaving Kirk and Fenel wondering what was going to be the man’s next move. Kirk believed Ikar was going to show him orders and charges brought on him but he knew they would most likely be fakes. He had to get the backing of a higher-ranking Federation Admiral and fast. Kirk could only think about one Admiral he knew more than any of them all.
“Doctor, I would not worry about a thing at this moment. I have friends in high places that would be willing to help us out. I want you to do what you can for Caspian, then once he is ready to transport I want you to stow him away on the USS Cole, the Captain is a good friend of mine and I will inform him of what’s going on. From there he will take care of the rest. Understood?”

The transport landed and Luke stepped out and stretched, yawning loudly. It had been a few days since he had left the Tiger Shark and was now very glad to be able to wander freely, instead of being confined to one space.
He made his way to the nearest Turbolift and ordered it to Command. He had been ordered by Starfleet to check the Station out. He was under the impression that things were not working out the way they should, it made little sense for Starfleet to send Luke but he was sure there was some reason...
And as he stepped onto Command, there was the reason...
"Ah Commander Dowding." Ikar said smiling.
"John." Luke said, barely able to incline his head to a nod.

Ikar snorted to himself as he thought of Kirk. He had been pacing for a while on Command and could think of nothing else...
"Almost as bad as Commander Dowding..." He muttered.
Just at that moment the doors to Command opened and there stood...
"Ah Commander Dowding." Ikar said smiling.
"John." Luke said, barely able to incline his head to a nod.
"I was just thinking about you Commander, please join me in my Office..."

"The USS Cole, Understood sir. Also I think we may want to put a bit of our own research into this." Fenel replied. "I have a friend who knows a fair bit about Star Fleet weaponry, he won't ask many questions and should be able to help."
"This friend of yours, is he Star Fleet?" The Captain asked.
"He's a Tactical ensign on the USS Victoria, we where friends at the academy. If we can get ahold of that report, or at least the phaser that shot Caspian it might give us some evidence against him." Fenel pointed out, keeping her voice low. "I will use a secure channel, besides I told him I'd contact him soon after arriving."
"That sounds like a plan. I need to head to my quarters before I end up like him. I'll plan my next move from there and keep you posted." Kirk replied. "the USS Cole should be arriving in a couple hours, find a convinient way to get Caspian on board and see if you can cover your tracks."
Fenel nodded and Kirk left the infirmary. She did not feel she could enlist the help of any of her staff, so she'd have to do this alone.
The Captain of the USS Cole had convinently filed a request for additional medical supplies. He sent down his own CMO to oversee their preperation and the two doctors where able to skillfully conceal Caspian in the shipment. As soon as the Ship was out of range, Caspain would be transported from the cargo bay to the Cole's Sickbay. It would be risky to leave him without medical care for so long, but it was their only option.
To cover her tracks Fenel filed a death certificate for Caspian saying he died due to a fatal reaction to the Phetetelin she had administerd during surgery. This should keep Ikar off her at leats for a couple hours, long enough for her to make it more convincing

Ikar sat slowly down at his desk and looked at Luke sternly.
"May I offer you a drink Commander?" He said potting to a steaming pot.
Luke took the seat opposite the smug Intelligence Officer and gave an equally stern look back at him.
"I am fine Commander. I see now why Starfleet has sent me here however."
Ikar smiled and poured himself a mug of coffee. "Of course Commander." He said. "I mean, with our history there is no wonder Starfleet put you here."
Luke nodded. "I can assure you, I have no intention on spending any time on Beta while you are in Command and will of course be filing my concerns."
"I wouldn't expect any different Luke."
Dowding rose to his feet, and started to walk towards the exit to the office.
"I am sorry that you had to come all this way Commander." Ikar said.
Luke turned round and faced him. "No you aren't." He said. "That's just the point." And with that he left.
Ikar launched the practically full coffee cup at the doors and screamed with rage.
"Soon." He muttered. "Soon."
He calmed himself and poured himself a fresh mug of coffee before tapping his comm badge.
"Command please inform Ambassador Metrel and Captain Kirk that the peace talks will begin in two hours. Ikar out."

Kirk made his way back to his quarters on the station. Stepping into the room he began to look around for anything that might have been out of the ordinary, just in case Ikar decided to take a personal tour of Kirk’s quarters. Walking to the desk in the front room of his quarters Kirk slipped off his jacket and loosened the vest letting his appearance slip a little in the name of comfort. Sitting down in front of the console attached to the desk Kirk opened a secure channel to Admiral McCormick’s office back on Earth. Kirk knew the message would take awhile to get back to Earth but it did not matter at least his message would have been sent.
Admiral McCormick,
Recent events have forced to me call upon you and any other friends I might have in Starfleet Command. I have a Commander here from Starfleet Intelligence stating that I am to be relieved of duty and put on trial for crimes I know nothing about. I am sure he will produce fake orders stating how I have been relieved from duty. To help fight these allegations I would like if it you could send me authentic orders stating my stay at Deep Space Beta. I may call upon you to come to DSB in my defense if that is possible. I hate to have only business to talk about but the situation out here is dire. I will await your response.
Sincerely,
Captain Jonathan Kirk
Kirk sat back in his chair and watched the transmission be sent in the Federation’s standard encryption code and sequence. Kirk thought there would be a good chance it would be intercepted so he sent more than one hoping at least one of them would get through to Admiral McCormick.
“Computer, Priority One message to Captain Harding of the USS Cole.” Kirk ordered.
The computer chimed and with in seconds Captain Harding stood facing Kirk from his ready room on board the USS Cole.
“Captain Kirk, long time no see.” Said Captain Harding.
“It has been awhile hasn’t it?” Kirk said.
“So what can I do for you Jon?” Harding asked.
Kirk and Harding talked for a good amount of time, giving Kirk the time he needed to tell his old friend Harding of the problems that has come about because of Starfleet Intelligence.
“What do you say Jeff, can you help us out?” Kirk asked.
Kirk watched as Harding looked as if he was thinking about it. During the conversation there were moments Kirk thought Harding would have flat out said no.
“I will send my Chief Medical Officer aboard when we arrive. We could use more medical equipment.” Harding said.
“I am more than sure we will spare some for you. Thanks Jeff.” Kirk said,
“Not a problem Jon, see you in a few hours. Harding out.”
The screen faded to black leaving only the Federation insignia left on the screen. Kirk leaned back in his chair and began to feel a flicker of hope in the madness that had started in all around when he arrived back on the station.
“Kirk to Doctor Fenel.”
“Fenel here.”
“I just wanted to inform you that the Cole’s Doctor is going to be coming over to for medical supplies.”
“Understood.”
Kirk again sat back in his chair and waited for the Cole to arrive.

Metrel had not spoken to any Starfleet personal in two weeks. It was better that way, it would show the consuil that Metrel was being objective and that the humans had not clouded his judgement. He of course knew about the Darkhawks mission to the Genisis Planet, how could they not. Any and all communications that came from Beta came through the Destiny.
"How much longer do we have to wait Chancellor, these lower beings are trifleing with us?" Cylia, the Deputy Defense Administrator asked.
"Cylia be patient, two weeks is nothing to us," Metrel said hoping that his old friend would remember who they were," we ourselves have made governments wait years before they had an audience with us."
Metrons were nutorious for making people wait, it was something that they enjoyed. Yes it was unbecoming of such a powerful civilization, but it was what they did. When Metrel was 100 years of age, the High Chancellor at that time made the BoMasi Federation wait 25 years before they had offical talks. It had become so frustrating for the BoMasi that they just gave up and went elsewhere for trade. Unfornately the BoMasi Federation no longer exist the Borg destroyed them. Metrel deeply regreted that and he promised himself that it would never happen if he ever was in power.
"High Chancellor, there is a Priority Message heading towards another ship."
"Which ship is it?" Metrel asked.
"Its registered as the USS Cole,"
"Relay the message to my panel," Metrel ordered. As Metrel read it, the more discouraged he became. When he finished he was as close to angry as he had ever been.
"Chancellor we are being hailed by the station."
"I want to speak to Captain Caspain or Captain Kirk Immediately," Metrel said to the man that was now in the view screen.

When Captain Harding's CMO arrived Fenel handed him a PADD "outlinning the medical equipment he would receive" it was really Captain Caspian's medical file as well as instructions on what to do after beaming the Captain on board. She then left The CMO with Willow to get the supplies and tended to Caspian/
With Willow and the rest of her staff occupied Fenel was able to fool the Medical equipment around Caspian to give a fulse report, it was enough to fool the nearby Tactical officer as well. "He's going into Anephilaptic shock!" Fenel yelled, cueing the intstruments to follow. In a few moments nothing she did could prevent it, Captain Caspian was "dead"
The Tactical officer ran up. "What, how!?"
"It must have been some of the medication I gave him, his family shows a history of allergies." Fenel lied, making a point of sounding very upset with herself. "I need to file out some paper work, please leave me."
He didn't seem like the type who enjoyed watching others grieve, so the Tactical officer left. Melain filed her paper work, recalibrated the biobed's sensors and took Caspian's "Body" to the morgue.
Once the Cole's CMO was done distracting the other medical staff, he gave her the word and Fenel beamed Caspian into the crate which was beamed on board the ship. In the Morgue now lay a holosimulation used in training, and Caspian as safe.
This should hold them off for a few days, or at least untill Ikar decides he wants to confirm for himself the Captain's death, by then I'll have conviniently arranged to have his "body" shipped back to earth for a funeral

"So Commander Ikar, you are saying that Commander Dowding assaulted you, after he had discovered you tampering with the controls on the U.S.S. Tiger Shark?"
Ikar nodded, he shook slightly. All theatrical of course, but it looked as if it were working. "He did indeed assault me, but I was not 'tampering' with the controls, I was merely working at my designated station at the designated time."
Ikar turned round and looked down at his DA. The man nodded proudly. Ikar remained passive in the face.
"So you were not doing anything untoward at that console?"
"Of course not Your Honour." Ikar said. "I was merely working, as normal."
"Thank you Commander. Please take your seat."
=^= Command to Commander Ikar. We have a channel open to Ambassador Metrel =^=
Ikar opened his eyes and yawned. Unpleasant memories were a regular haunting of his dreams.
He tapped his comm badge. "Understood Command."
He rose to his feet and walked out onto Command. Before he began to talk to Metrel a Petty Officer gave him a padd.
"What is this?" He snapped.
"Death Report." The scared officer replied, and then quickly added. "Sir."
Ikar scanned the padd and frowned.
Captain Malachi Caspian
"Please infrom Doctor Fenel I will be stopping by the Infirmary later today." Ikar said.
"Yes Sir." The Petty Officer said before hurrying away.
Ikar turned to face the viewscreen. "Put them on." He said.
=^= I want to speak to Captain Caspain or Captain Kirk Immediately =^=
Ikar was a little taken aback with the Ambassador's rashness but he had dealt with people like this for a long as he had been in Starfleet, in a number of ways...
"Ambassador Metrel. Captain Kirk and myself will be leading the talks with you, however at the moment Captain Kirk is currently indisposed."
"And what of Caspian. This is his Station is it not?"
"I am afraid there has been some rather devastating news in regards to the good Captain. He passed away earlier today, the details are still being confirmed however I see no reason to postpone these talks. I am sure Captain Caspian would have wanted us to continue." He said with a gracious, yet mourning smile. Acting was one of his strong suits.

As Fenel worked to "arrange" transport for Caspian's "Body" to the earth a Petty Officer entered, it was the same crewmember she sent to Ikar with the death report.
"The.. Capt... Commander sent me to tell you he will be meeting with you in an hour about the Captain's death.
"Thank you." Fenel replied serenly, even though inside she was cursing, I expected at least three hours to cover my tracks, now what!. "You are dismissed." The crewmember left and Fenel jumped into action.
There was a transport the USS Tadpole, bound forearth that was leaving in forty minutes. That didn't give her much time, but it would have to be enough. She could not inlist her staff's help, but she'd done trickeir things with genetics at the academy. She would have to insure that whatever was in the Casket would register as the Captain and would weigh similair enough not to envoke suspician, most people wouldn't want to open the thing, so it didn't have to look like the captain.
She fetched a Casket from the morgue, and set up some lab equipment to clone some of the Captain's blood cells. Once there was enough she lined the casket with the blood and included several peiced of scrap metal which she coverd in a sheet. It didn't seem very convining to her, but it was going to have to do. As a second thought she included a PaDD explaining the truth, although not disclosing where the Captain really was, in case someone did investigate. If they where as cynical of Ikar as she was, fenel hoped they would keep quiet
Willow arrived back from her break just as Fenel closed and sealed the lid "Willow, I need you to have the Captain's body transported to the USS TadPole immediatly. I have contacted his closest family and they want to have the funeral as soon as possible." Fenel orderd, Willow didn't ask questions and the Casket was soon on it's way to the transport. Fenel contacted the Captain and let him know it was arriving. The ship was due to leave in fiveminutes, Ikar would be arriving in 15. It was a tight squeeze.

Post by Jonathan Kirk on Nov 3, 2005 21:18:32 GMT -5
The USS Cole unceremoniously arrived and docked at Deep Space Beta close to Kirk’s quarters. Kirk hard ordered a crewman to inform him when the Cole arrived and to make sure to pass word to Captain Harding to meet him at the First Officer’s office on the Command Deck of the station. Since it was customary for the visiting Captain to chat and talk business with the base commander Kirk had to make sure he did not take up too much of Harding’s time.
Stepping onto the Command Deck Kirk made his way to the first officer’s office. Commander Ko’Vor had little time to move in and it showed, personal items had been left hanging on the wall, as well as Federation trinkets were thrown wildly onto the floor. Kirk eyes the knives hanging on the wall and thought about something he heard a Klingon say to him, a warrior’s sign that he will return for his weapons. Harding was a prompt man of equal age to Kirk. Every chance Kirk got he liked to tease Harding about the color change happening in Harding’s thick mop he called hair.
“Your grays are showing.” Kirk said with a smile.
“There are not gray, they are blonde and you know that.” Harding fired back with a smile.
Harding stood up and shook Kirk’s hand as he made his way through the door and behind the first officer’s desk. Sitting down Kirk noticed Harding was already drinking his usual coffee drink. It seemed no matter what time of day it was Harding had himself a coffee.
“Have you been waiting long?” Kirk asked.
“Not at all. I did help myself to your replicator.” Harding said.
Kirk laughed softly at the blunt joke about using the first officer’s office instead of the base commander’s office in the raised part of the Command Deck. Harding laughed to himself taking a large drink of his coffee.
“I sent my Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Blair, to see your doctor about the list of medical supplies I sent you.” Harding said.
“Excellent, I was just about to ask how that was going.” Kirk replied.
“A few minutes ago I received a message from Dr. Blair the cargo was transported over to the Cole intact. They are going through it as we speak, my staff was told this was time sensitive material.” Harding said finishing his coffee.
Kirk nodded his head in agreement. Dr. Fenel and Kirk both knew the materials in that container were time sensitive. Speaking of time sensitive Kirk had been waiting for a reply from Admiral McCormick, he began to worry that Starfleet Intelligence had intercepted his message.
“Do not worry to much Jon I can see how bad things are getting around here. We are set to depart with in the hour.” Harding said leaning forward.
“Thanks a lot Jeff, I owe you one big time.” Kirk said extending his hand out to shake Harding’s, “I hate to have to run but I know you have to meet with Commander Ikar in a few minutes, and I need to head back down to sickbay and check on Dr. Fenel.”
Harding shook Kirk’s hand and smiled. It had been years since these two men had last had a good time breaking the rules like they used to do when command decisions were not made by them. Harding had made it a point to want to continue exploration out in the Beta Quadrant and made sure he would stop back by the next change he got.
“It was good seeing you again Jon.” Harding said shaking Kirk’s hand.
“Same here Jeff. Stay in touch.” Kirk said leaving the office.
“Damn busy man he has become.” Harding said softly as Kirk left the room.
Walking at a face pace Kirk made his way off the Command Deck and headed to sickbay, he wanted to personally make sure everything had gone as smooth as Harding described. Stepping into sickbay Kirk noticed nurses running around the room with forms and PADDs for the doctor to sign. Fenel was busy trying to get things under control.
“Ikar is going to be down here in fifteen minutes.” Fenel said as she passed by.
”What happened?” Kirk said a bit confused.
“Caspian died of a allergic reaction to some medication I gave him,” Fenel said stopping to put on the best sad face she could muster up, “Your friend on the Cole got the supplies they needed if that’s what you are here to ask about.” Fenel finished.
“Actually yes it was. I wanted to make sure they got everything they needed before they went out on deep space patrol,” Kirk replied, “Where is Caspian’s body?” Kirk asked.
“I had it sent to the USS Tadpole. I looked up Caspian’s medical file and it instructed that his body was to be sent directly to Earth. We have to respect the wishes of the deceased.” Fenel said.
“I agree.” Kirk said softly shaking his head.
“If you will excuse me Captain I have some paper work I must finish before I get off duty.” Fenel said heading back to her office.
Kirk walked slowly out of sickbay feeling as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Caspian was safe, a fake body was on its way back to Earth and there was not a way Ikar could prove Caspian was not head. Walking down the corridor Kirk was stopped by a Marine officer.
“Sir this just came in for you.” The Marine handed Kirk a PADD and walked away.
“Thank you.” Kirk said looking over the PADD, “I’ll be damned, it seems I made a dint in his armor after all.”
Kirk walked briskly up to the Command Deck. He had just received a communication from Metrel, the high Chancellor of the Metron Civilization. It appeared Metrel only wished to speak with either Captain Caspian or Kirk. Commander Ikar did the best he could to inform Metrel that at the moment both officers were not available. This presented Kirk with an excellent way to upstage Ikar yet again.
Stepping back onto the Command Deck it seemed Commander Ikar had already left to head down to sickbay to investigate the death of Caspian while Captain Harding had already beamed back over to the Cole and was awaiting clearance to leave.
“Sir the USS Cole signals they are ready to leave.” The Operations Officer said.
“Go ahead and release the docking clamps.” Kirk ordered.
“Aye sir.” The Operations Officer replied.
The main view screen blinked and Kirk watched as the Galaxy class starship slowly backed away from the docking port before engaging its engines to full and flying away from the stations view. The screen blinked again to a few cargo ships wanting to dock.
“Lieutenant, hail the Metrons. It is about time we get these peace talks started.” Kirk ordered.
“Aye sir,” The Operations Officer worked on his station for a second, “Channel open.”
“High Chancellor Metrel, this is Captain Kirk of the United Federation of Planets.”
The screen blinked on and Metrel appeared on the main view screen. If Kirk did not know better he thought he could see a smile on the Metron’s face.
