"Repairs? who said anything about repairs, you said clean, and thats what half my teams are doing. But other than that, the teams down in engineering are almost complete with the more critical repiars needed, they will begin working on the less important systems within the hour"
Kirk was shocked at the Marines attitude toward him, but he would have to save that discussion for latter as news of the USS Federation’s arrival was spreading across the station and Kirk needed to make his way back to the Command Deck.
“Captain, Admiral Yang has arrived and is waiting in your office.”
“Thank you. Tell him I will be right there, and please inform Captain Caspian to beam over ASAP.” Kirk said.
“Captain Caspian is on his way sir.”
“Good. Kirk out.”
Kirk turned to look at the names on the console one last time, he knew he would be getting this report across his desk in the next couple of days so there was no use in dwelling on it now.
Kirk made his way up to the Command Deck as fast as he could, once on the Command Deck he made his way into the Base Commander’s office to see Admiral Yang sitting at the desk with Captain Caspian in one of the guest chairs.
“Come in Captain, we were just talking about you.” Admiral Yang said motioning to the empty chair next to Caspian.
“I am sorry I was unable to greet you at the airlocks-“ Kirk was cut off by the Admiral’s raised hand.
“Nothing to apologies for, your crew told me you were down in sickbay checking on injured crewmembers. I can respect that.” Admiral Yang said with a smile.
There was a moment of silence before the Admiral spoke up again.
“Listen Captains, I was sent out here to take a look at this place and your combined command of the situation out here by Admiral Paris. He had been hearing rumors from Starfleet Intelligence that both of you are incompetent leaders and we should replace both of you with more Starfleet Intelligence ‘friendly’ officers. I took the liberty to look over both of your records on the way here and I must say that I am impressed with both of your records and I can see why Starfleet Command offered these positions to you both,” Admiral Yang said letting the words set in, “As you may or may not know Starfleet is in a bit of a command restructuring, old Admirals are retiring and new Admirals are coming into power and so fourth. As with Deep Space Nine, Deep Space Beta will be the Federations foothold here in the Beta Quadrant and there is no one else I would rather have running the show out here than you two officers.”
Kirk and Caspian looked at each other with child like excitement, this had been the first time in both of their long careers that they had received such high praise from such a high ranking Admiral.
“Captain Malachi Caspian, please stand at attention.” Admiral Yang said.
“Sir.” Caspian replied standing up as the Admiral had instructed him to do.
“Because of your actions here on the station and the quick and decisive resolution to the conflict that had occurred just hours ago I here by promote you to the rank of full Admiral with all the privileges and responsibilities that entails. As of this moment I here by give you full command of the USS Seven Dispensations. Congratulations Admiral.” Admiral Yang said placing the new pipes on Caspian’s collars.
“Thank you sir.” Admiral Caspian said shaking the hand of Admiral Yang.
“Captain Jonathan Kirk, please stand at attention.” Admiral Yang said.
Kirk stood at attention as Yang asked, his heart pounding in hopes he too would be rewarded for his hard work in the last few months.
“For your actions dealing with the initial Borg attack on this station and your quick thinking and fast actions in dealing with the deceptive Command Ikar I here by give you full command of Deep Space Beta and promote you to the honorable rank of Fleet Admiral with all the privileges and responsibilities that rank entails. Congratulations Admiral.” Admiral Yang said placing the new pips on Kirk’s collars.
“Thank you sir,” Kirk said shaking the Admiral’s hand, “What about the Darkhawk sir?”
“I almost forgot about your little ship,” Admiral Yang said chucking to himself, “You are now the Fleet Commander of this sector, you are allowed to either command the USS Darkhawk or choose a Captain for her, the choice if yours. Now that we are on the topic of this sector you two Admirals are the only two Admirals stationed this far out in Federation space. All administration is to be dealt by you two, orders now come form you two unless an important mission needs to come from Starfleet Command. This quadrant is yours to command, make the Federation proud.” Admiral Yang said smiling at the two new Admirals.
“We will sir.” Kirk said.
“I must now report back to the Earth and take over Starfleet Command. You two have earned a friend back on Earth, if you ever need anything just say the word,” Yang said tapping his COM Badge, “Yang to Federation, one to beam up.”
The Admiral disappeared in a brilliant glow of blue light leaving only Caspian and Kirk standing in Kirk’s new office.
“Well…” Kirk said but could not find the words.
