The USS Darkhawk was returning from a routine mission from the outskirts of the sector. After 6 months out, they were anxious to get home. Captain Lorian Smith was sitting in his ready room, reading over the reports from his First Officer, Commander Daya, who was currently sitting in the captain’s chair overlooking the night shift.
"ETA to the starbase" Daya asked as he rubbed his eyes. "5 days, give or take a few hours sir" Daya sighed as he stood up, “ok, Lt. Hommel, you have the bridge, I’ve been up for hours"
“Thanks for the update Commander,” Lorian said as he looked at the mission reports. Lorian had been captain for six months now and he was enjoying his time. The Metrons, Gorn, Klingons, Borg, and so many other races, where a constant reminder of the danger at DSB. Yet things were peaceful right now and that was all that he could hope for.
"Sleep well sir" Hommel said as Daya left the bridge, yawning. Moments later he arrived at his quarters and fell into his bed, falling asleep instantly.
~~~~~
Captain Smith looked up as he thought he heard someone pressing his door chime.
"Enter” no one entered, and Lorain put the PADD down. "I said enter" he repeated, a bit more forcibly, getting up from his chair he went over to the door and opened it. No one stood at the door and Lorain shook his head, "must be the lack of sleep and coffee" he said as he rubbed his eyes, turning back to his chair.
"Oh no captain, its just me" a figure said, as he lounged in Smith's chair. "Who are you?" Smith asked, clearly pissed about having an unknown person sitting in his chair, after making him get up. "my name is Q"
"Get off of my ship, I’ve heard of you, and your continuum bull," Lorian said and he strode forward, lifting Q out of his chair. Taking a seat he glared coldly at Q. "What do you want?"
"Well, to be honest, I’m bored" With a heavy sigh Q sat on the edge of Lorian's desk, looking around. "What the hell do you want!" Lorian said again, sternly.
"This" Q said, snapping his fingers.
Lorian looked around, finding himself in a forest, sitting on a rock rather than his desk, "What the hell did you do!!!" he yelled at Q, who was laughing softly to himself. "Now, don’t be so rude, naive, that’s no way to treat royalty"
"What the hell are you talking about, your no royalty" Lorian said as he stared up at Q, who was sitting on a horse.
"Ah, but in this time I am," Q said laughing.
"What do you mean, this time?” Lorian asked a deep pain in his guy growing,” Where am I?"
"I think you mean, when are you. You are in the year 1327, in England, in the middle of war. have fun" and with that Q disappeared, leaving Lorian to himself, calling after Q.
"Its no damn use,” Lorian said as he looked around, trying to find his way out of the forest. Finding a stream he rushed over to it and drank deeply. Looking up he saw a young child playing in the water. Quickly spitting out the water Lorian went over to her. "Hey, wait, come back" he called as the child got out and quickly dressed herself, tossing over her head a cotton dress, poorly made. Lorian ran after her, following her to the edge of the forest, where the girl kept running, towards a small fishing village.
As Lorian came to the town he heard a slight commotion in the center. Rounding a bend, he was shocked to see a single man surrounded by 6 knights, all of whom wielding swords and shields. The man in the middle was quite and held two short swords in both hands, the citizens of the village peeking out from inside their houses.
"You naive, how dare you dishonor my mother with your foul tongue" Lorain was slightly surprised to see that the universal translator still worked, apparently Q still wanted it to be a little fair. "Ha, I’m just getting started you sorry excuse for bitch's nipple" Daya's voice rang out from the center, as he smiled at the "head" knight who was fuming.
The knight charged forward, swinging wildly at Daya, who blocked with one sword and flat sided the knight backend, knocking him over with the extra momentum, and a foot sticking out. Daya stepped on the knight’s chest and pushed the visor up, resting his sword against the knight neck. "Now then you curr. leave this village or die!" he said, raising his sword in a mock swing. The knight flinched and begged
"Have mercy" Daya stopped and lifted his foot off the knight’s chest, allowing him to get up. "now beat it" he said, kicking sand at the knight, who ran to his horse and galloped away, with the rest of his knight close behind.
“I see you are having fun,” Lorian said looking at his first officer.
“Yes, but I want more fun,” Q said appearing once again from no where. With the snap of his fingers every senior officer of the Darkhawk crew appeared in front of Lorian.
“Have fun,” Q said and disappeared.
OOC i had meant that we were to find the others, but this works as well
IC
"of course, about as much fun as one could hae after being woken up and thrown out of a house by them" he said, looking in the direction of the knights. "do you know what happened?" Daya asked looking at his captain. <tag Smith> "good, i thought i was the only one"
Turning to the villagers, who had come out of hiding, Daya addressed the elder, whom everyone looked to for advice and such."kind sir, please do not be afriad of appearnce, we are simply lost and confused, i wouldnt expect you to understand, but we dont come from this time."
"Weither you come from this time or any other, we dont care, you saved us from those knights, for that I am grateful. you and your friends may stay as long as you need, we will provide as much as we can. but becuase of this war, we dont hae much to offer."
"thank you good sir, we dont plan on staying long" Daya turned back to the others, and walked to Lorain's side. "We can get a change of cloths, and probably some food, we should probably sleep here for the night, and then leave tomorrow. Those knights will be back, with reinforcements"
Kirk sat in his office onboard DSB reading over the latest reports. The station had been quiet for some time now and Kirk was not going to complain. The system had become less volitile with the signing of the colonization agreement with the Metrons, and the recent peace treaty with a small empire on the Klingon boarder.
"This always make my job easier." Kirk said looking at the shipment requests from the stations replacement depot, "It appears we do not need as many supplies as I thought. Why am I talking to myself?"
"Because your human, well most of you."
Before Kirk could reply there was a flash of light and he found himself sitting in an open field holding thin air that used to be a coffee cup. The warmth of sunlight was washing on his face so bright he had to shade his eyes.
"What the hell?" Kirk said looking around at his new surroundings.
Daya turned as he heard another voice behind him, seeing Kirk sitting on the ground, holding his hand out as if he were drinking somthing. "Kirk, you ok?" he asked as he helped him stand. "What happened?" Kirk asked, turning to Lorian.
Lorian then explained what had happened and why they were here. <tag Smith>
"i was inside one of the house when i woke up, beind dragged out by the knights, appearently they believe me to some kind of theif, who stole these two swords, but when i woke, the swords were attached to me, as if someone didnt want the knights to get them"
"Do you know what happened?" Daya asked looking at his captain. "Yes, but I don't want to get into it right now," Lorian responded seething with anger. He now knew why Admiral Janeway and Captain Picard warned all who could listen to be weary of Q. Daya has said something, but Lorian was no longer listening to him. He was looking at his other officers, there faces were confused and surprised at the same time. Lorian didn't think they were breaking the Prime Directive, Q would never allow that, but still he thought it unwise to talk to the villagers here. "What the hell?" Kirk said."Admiral, why am I not suprised to see you," Lorian said musingly. Q would always make this more complicated. "I'm guessing you want to know whats going on right?" Lorian said," well Q is supposedly bored." "Bored?" Kirk asked already angry as Lorian had been a few seconds ago. "Yes I am very bored," Q said reappearing. Q then snapped his fingers and Lorian felt his body disappear and reappear in a blink of an eye. He was matched with Admiral Kirk. Q snapped again and then he was matched with Daya. Q did it once more and started talking. Lorian had ended up with Ensign Anderson.
"Well I'm still bored, and since I'm bored I'm going to make this game a little more interesting."What do you mean more interesting Q?" Lorian snapped," you will leave my crew alone." "Just like Kathryn and Jean-Luc, a bit touchy," Q said smirking," as I was saying. You have been matched up with someone. They will be your partner in my little game.""What is your little game?" Lorian asked. "You are going to have to find this," Q said showing them all three gems," these will all be hidden in the same place. You are to find them and you win.""There only three gems," Lorian asked. "Yes that means that the last team to arrive will be stuck here forever," Q said snapping his fingers. "So what are we going to do?" Lorian asked everyone. "Oh and so you don't cheat I'm going to separate all of you," Q said snapping his fingers, making everyone disappear. <Tag Everyone> OCC: Okay, guys everyone is with someone else. I did this to stave off writer burn out. It won't be easy as it sounds , Q likes his games.
With a flash Katie found herself in a wonderful place. The sun was shining through the break in the fluffy white clouds. It was a sight she hadn't seen since she was a little girl. Katie saw quaint little houses in the distance and wondered if all of this was real. Her question was answered when she felt a sharp object poker her in the back. Turning around Katie was faced to face with several men standing in a circle. In the middle of this circle was Lt. Commander Daya.
A brief exhange of words took place after an even quicker battle. Watching the men run off Katie wondered where Commander Daya had learned how to use a sword like he had, it's not like they were a common weapon used in their time.
Suddenly out of no where a lone man wearing a Starfleet uniform appeared. Katie had never seen this man before and was curious to find out who he was. A coversation started between the higher ranking officers on the ship and the being known only as Q. Katie could tell that most of the bridge members know of this interesting man but Katie herself still had no idea what Q was.
Watching very closely Katie found herself transported around little a little kitty. First she was standing next to Commander Daya. Then in a instant she was standing next to Commander Smith.
"Well I'm still bored, and since I'm bored I'm going to make this game a little more interesting.
"What do you mean more interesting Q?" Lorian snapped," you will leave my crew alone."
"Just like Kathryn and Jean-Luc, a bit touchy," Q said smirking," as I was saying. You have been matched up with someone. They will be your partner in my little game."
"What is your little game?" Lorian asked.
"You are going to have to find this," Q said showing them all three gems," these will all be hidden in the same place. You are to find them and you win."
"There only three gems," Lorian asked.
"Yes that means that the last team to arrive will be stuck here forever," Q said snapping his fingers.
"So what are we going to do?" Lorian asked everyone.
"Oh and so you don't cheat I'm going to separate all of you," Q said snapping his fingers, making everyone disappear.
Just as last time Katie found herself not where she had thought she would be. The warm sunlight that pierced her uniform was replaced by a cold wind and the sounds of dripping water. Katie couldn't see a thing only a single point of light at the end of a long hallway.
"Commander Smith." Katie called out.
"aw crap" Daya said as he looked around after another snap of Q's fingers, Kirk was standing next to him, probably a hundred miles away from where they were.
"So, what are we gonna do now?" Daya asked as he looked around, hoping to get some kind of reaction out of the motionless Kirk. "Why do you always ask me?" Kirk said, a bit pissier than normal. "Uh, lets see because your the ADMIRAL!!!!!" Daya yelled back, "AND because I was practically forced into taking my position as First Officer, for you information, i applied to stay where I was" Daya yelled once more, letting his emotions filter.
"Ya done now?" Kirk asked, and Daya sighed deeply, "yes, sorry i yelled at you"
Daya sat down roughly on a rock and thought for a moment. His thoughts were disrupted when he heard the sound of galloping horse, and the sight of a dust cloud raising in the distance. He stood up and watched the oncoming cloud of dust, out of the dust came a lone figure, galloping hard, as if he were being chased by someone. When the horseman rode by, Daya caught the sight of a strand of long dark hair. Looking back to wards the cloud, he saw 4 more horsemen, yelling and screaming, pointing at Kirk and Daya.
"This doesn't look good" He said looking at Kirk. Daya stood still and watched the horse move closer, and when they were within smelling range, he ducked an oncoming blade, swinging at his head. "What the hell was that for!!!" he yelled at the horseman, who immediately stopped his frantic gallop, and turned to wards Daya. "Oh shit" He said as the horseman slowly strode to wards Daya, the horse's spit dropping to the ground in large splotches.
"How dare you speak to me, Naive" the man said as he spit at Daya. Daya looked down at the spit, which landed on his shoe and slowly started shaking his head, to the amusement of the knight and his company. "I do as i wish, you dog" Daya said as he stepped to wards the knight, who stopped laughing and glared down at Daya. " you would do well to keep your tongue in your mouth."
"And you would do better to cut yours out of your mouth" Daya said as he stepped back, expecting a fight. The knight's face turned a steaming red and he shook in his saddle with anger. The knight kicked at Daya, landing a heel to Daya's eye, knocking him down.
The other knight's got off their horses and attacked Kirk, who stood no chance, They soon had the wind knocked out of him and were placing him on a saddle back. Daya moaned and looked up, to see another boot coming down on his head.
The pair woke up in a castle dungeon, Daya standing up on the wall with chains, and Kirk laying on the ground, chains on his wrists and feet. "Hey, Kirk, you OK?" Daya said, struggling a bit. "Yeah" he heard as Kirk made it to his feet. "Looks like we'll be in here for awhile" Daya said, looking at the skeleton on the wall next to him.
Katie noticed the scene in front of her was much more beautiful than the cold dark cave she had just come from. Katie took a moment to enjoy the sound of the birds and the smell of the grass. She found it to be an escape from the task that the Q being had given them.
"What should we do now Commander?" Katie asked.
With a sigh, Church looked up from his desk. He was still adjusting to his artificial hand, and nothing he did could make it seem like his original, natural hand.
"Could be worse," said a voice to the side of Church. "I've known plenty of people who would drive you insane. There was a horrid fellow named Riker- ah, I shouldn't even torture you with the story. And before you can ask who I am, I'm Q."
Church turned to find Q sitting with his feet on the Senior Marine's desk. "Oh." He thought for a moment. "Fish!" he called.
"Don't bother calling her," said Q. "Time has stopped for the two of us."
Church rolled his eyes. "Well, then unstop it. I have work to do. Don't you have anything better to do?"
Q sighed. "Frankly, I don't. Jean-Luc wanted to be left alone, and he's really had his fair share of trials. Besides, I wondered if there were any other interesting humans running about."
"I think you've come to the right place," said Church, wondering if it would be possible to befriend the odd, seemingly all-powerful being. "Long as you're here, though - assuming you are the Q I've read about - care to fix my hand for me?"
Q chuckled. "If I fixed every problem humans got themselves into, I'd be busy for all eternity. Besides, you would all fall into stagnation, and then the continuum would be forced to remove your pitiful species from the universe."
"You sure you can't make an exception?" aske Church.
"Perhaps... if you prove your worth." Q grinned. After a flash of light, Church found himself with the rest of the senior staff in a forest.
(After Q's last remarks...)
"Don't I get a weapon?" yelled Church. "Or maybe you'd like a human's perspective to help you edit the scenario? Make it more interesting?"
Q didn't answer. Church looked around, but didn't see anyone else. How do we know who we're paired with? he wondered.
Something loud could be heard coming toward where Church stood in the forest. He crouched behind a tree, hidden by bushes. A small group of horses trotted by. Church got up after they left, and looked around for any sign of another officer.
OOC: Commander Daya, I'm using the part that you used in your post. It was very good.
Katie walked down the cold damp hallway, heading to wards the light at the end of the tunnel all the while calling out to anyone. "Commander Smith, Commander Daya, anyone?" she called, to hear nothing. When she entered the light, she was blinded momentarily by the bright light, and shielded her eyes.
Blinking away the pain, she looked around, seeing a small waterfall flowing off a rock pool. Commander Smith lay on a patch of grass, looking up at the sky. "Commander!" Katie called as he rushed to his side. Lorian got up quickly and smiled, glad to she his crew-mate alive and well. "Ensign, are you alright?" he asked, and Katie nodded vigorously.
"What should we do now Commander?" Katie asked.
"Well, Ensign hopefully we will be able to find the others," Lorian said repeating what Q had said in his head. Would he really do that, would he keep someone hear just for the fun of it.
"Ensign what were you doing on the ship when Q transported you here?" Lorian asked.
<Tag Katie>
"Okay, I think that he just took everyone in the middle of working," Lorian said as he got up from the ground. It was very beautiful, but it was time to get out of there. When he got up he noticed that there was something shiny in the pool beneath the waterfall.
"I'm thinking these are for us, Ensign," Lorian said as he handed her a sword.
<Tag Katie>
"I don't think its going to be very easy finding our friends," Lorian said as he stood there along side the ensign looking at there surroundings.
McLean found himself working overtime in engineering, the last couple of missions put serious strains on the Warp Core and he going to make sure everybody on the ship was going to make it home.
The death of his wife was still an issue McLean had little time to deal with. Instead of crying himself to sleep he preferred working himself to sleep. Many nights he would find himself sleeping on a stack of PADDs while still in his uniform.
The last thing McLean remembered was adjusting the Warp Core's flow regulation when suddenly he found himself standing in a open field. Looking around McLean saw a forest directly to his left and along the ridge line to his right a team of mounted men that looked like medieval knights. With out thinking McLean raced into the forest to avoid the potential hazardous situation.
As he entered the woods he head the cracking and popping of tree branches followed by the sound of the horses heading in his direction. Laying down on the ground McLean waited for the horses to ride by before he brought himself back up to his feet. Standing up McLean then found himself face to face with somebody he didn't expect to see in the entire universe.
"Not you." McLean said to Captain Church.
Kirk could feel the blood still running from his lip, it would not be long before the nanoprobes had repaired the cut on the inside of his mouth. The bleeding and the sensation of pain brought a brief feeling of being human once again to the former Borg drone. Kirk wondered where they were, the surroundings looked familiar enough, medieval times, maybe Earth or another planet. From what Kirk had heard of Q, the being was capable of anything.
"Commander." Kirk said to Daya.
"Yeah." Daya replied.
"Next time we happened to be surrounded by several knights on horse back please refrain from yelling at them and calling them names," Kirk said, "That is an order."
"Fair enough." Daya replied looking over his situation.
"Fair enough." Daya replied looking over his situation.
The wooden door at the top of the stair leading down to the dugeon burst open with the force of being rammed, as mountain of a man stepped through, clad in dark armor, and wearing a large axe on his back. His heavy steps rang loud in the dungeon as he made his way towards Daya and Kirk.
He stopped just short of spitting distance, and looked over the two of them. Daya hanging his head down and Kirk looking up at the man. The man looked back towards the door as another prisoner was being dragged in, his head covered with a black bag and his hands tied by ropes. The prisoner struggled continuously and was being roughly thrown around by 4 knights. When they finally made their way into the middle, after having to call in 2 more gaurds, one of the knights being kicked into a beam, the mountain man grabbed the prisoners head and yanked it upright, a yelp of pain coming from the bag.
The man punched hard into the prisoner's stomach, knocking him out immediatly. The prisoner slumped and fell to the ground, were the gaurds removed the bag and put chains around his wrist and ankles. "Toss him over with the others" the mountain said, as he left the gaurds to do there job. Daya looked over at Kirk and they both looked at the prisoner's limp body as it lay on the ground, the gaurds having just left.
"Ensign what were you doing on the ship when Q transported you here?" Lorian asked.
"I was at the helm sir." Katie replied.
"Okay, I think that he just took everyone in the middle of working," Lorian said as he got up from the ground. It was very beautiful, but it was time to get out of there. When he got up he noticed that there was something shiny in the pool beneath the waterfall.
"I'm thinking these are for us, Ensign," Lorian said as he handed her a sword.
Taking the sword from Commander Smith's hands Katie had a worried look on her face. The sword was much too heavy for her to hold. She knew that if they happened to come across hostile people she wouldn't be able to swing the sword.
"I don't think its going to be very easy finding our friends," Lorian said as he stood there along side the ensign looking at there surroundings.
"I think your right sir." Katie said.
Lorian knew that the sword was way to big for Ensign Anderson's body frame. The sword already reached her waist, but she did not say anything. She was ready to get this moving along and so was he.
"Ensign, I think it's time for us to get out of here," Lorian said," its time to go find our crew mates."
<Tag Katie>
Lorian was at point and headed deep into the forest. It was a forest full of life and secrets. Every step he took was a cautious one. He knew that around every corner, behind every tree there might be something or someone to get them.
Yet the walk through the forest was a quiet one, the only living creature that they had seen was a rabbit. After about an hour of walking through the forest, the two of them came onto a clearing. In the clearing they saw a small village.
Lorian looked at his officer and saw reassurance, he knew that talking to the people of this time could be dangerous, but he needed to find members of his crew.
"AAAHHHHH!!" were the screams coming from the women and children as they saw Lorian and Katie walk onto their village. Maybe it was the clothes, but there reaction seemed like an overreaction.
"You are you, leave this place at once," a man ordered as he stepped in front of them.
"I am Lorian, and this is Katie, we are strangers in your land," Lorian said hoping not to scare the people even more.
"From what land do you come from, your clothes is strange to us?" he asked.
<Tag Katie>
"You allow your women to speak for you!" Liers mocked," your people must be weak."
<Tag Katie>
"She is not my women, she is a friend and women are treated as equals in my land," Lorian said hoping to stop the escalation.
"What do you want with us?" Liers asked.
"We'd like directions," Lorian said," towards the castle."
"What business do you have at the castle?" Liers asked.
"That is for me to know," Lorian responded," could you give me directions and maybe a couple of horses."
"What do you have to offer us?" Liers asked looking at Katie. Lorian instinctualy moved to block Katie from his view.
<Tag Katie>
"She is not up for barter," Lorian said.
"Then your strange clothes, we have never seen clothes like those," Lier said," I will give you a map and one horse."
"We need two horses," Lorian said.
"No, for both of your uniforms I will give you one map and one horse," Lier said.
"Fine agreed," Lorian said looking for somewhere to change.
"You and your friend may change in there," Lier pointed to a tent. Both of them made there way towards the tent and quickly changed. They both had undergarments, but they would need pants. Once they had found some, they changed and walked out.
The village erupted in laughter, all pointing at Katie. Lorian quickly realized why they were doing so, the pants that she had chosen must of been those of a child. She of course did not care and kept her head held up high.
"You are really far from your land stranger, but I deal is a deal," Lier said," there is your horse and this a map."
"Thank you," Lorian said taking the map.
"Katie are you ready to leave?" Lorian asked knowing that if they started soon they would have a couple of hours to search for there friends.
