Brelev caught the Marine commander as he made to leave "Thank you Mr Curch, I owe you and your team one."
"For what?" he asked, confused.
"Keeping an eye out on the mission, and then leting me continue my job even when it meant more work for you." Brelev replied.
Church shrugged. "Its my job."
After making sure that beta team was ready, Whuch contact the Bridge to sk how long it would be until they reached the next planet.
Anderson answered him. =^= Well, we have bit of a problem... you could come look at it yourself, if you want, but essentially we're caught in a bunch of subspace ripples, which could be a cause from the Genesis planet's destruction. We might not get to the planet for a while, but if we set out now we could be there in just under an hour. =^=
"Thank you, Anderson. Church out." The Marine Captain turned to the beta team. "Sounds like we might not get anywhere for a while. Stay nearby, but get out of uniform, relax... I think we'll have a few hours, at least."

Off: I again need to apologize for my inactivity. I know that it only has been a couple of days, but I usually post every chance that I get. I blame it all on a recent writer's block that I can now say I have beaten.
On:
“Captain, I just realized our scans aren’t getting through to the lower parts of the atmosphere. It appears this planet is giving off strange radiation that is effecting our sensors. This would explain why we haven’t been able to pick up any life signs from the planet.” Katie informed Commander Smith.
How could I have been so stupid to not order more scans Lorian cursed himself. He had put his people in danger because he hadn't done something that any officer would of done. In fact he wanted to bring them all back right now, but stopped as he realized that he was being hailed by Commander Daya.
=^= Daya to Smith=^=
=^=Smith here, go ahead commander=^=
=^=Thought it was best i gave you a update on what going on. When we arrived at the planets service, we detected no large lifesigns, neither the Marines nor the science officer saw anythign on the tricorders, and Lt. Williams had the first encounter with our rather large friends, they look much like the prehistoric t=Rex. no one is hurt and Brelev is currently taking samples. All in all, this planet would make one hell of a survival program=^=
=^=I would have to agree Commander. If anything else happens I want a report immediately=^=
<Tag Daya>
Lorian was now seriously considering pulling everyone out, but he didn't want to disappoint Captian Kirk so he finalyl decided against it. So Lorian was at the captain's chair hoping that everything went as planned.
A very short while later, Mr. McLean called Lorian to his station so he could show him something. Lorian quickly thought it was bad news and to his surprise it was.
"Commander what are these ripples, I have never seen so many at the same time?" Lorian asked worried that if they didn't get out now they might never.
<Tag McLean>
"Okay Ensign Anderson contact the away team tell them that they will be on the planet for a while," Lorian said," also I want everyone working on trying to jump start the engines."
<Tag everyone>
Off: Once again sorry about all this stuff, I think that Captian Kirk is right and all my characters are finally getting to me.

OFF: Awwwwww, is poor Lorian experiencing the oh-crap-I-have-too-many-characters phase? ;D More seriously, I thought we'd already come back up from the planet... haven't we? I mean, I'm all for having my Marines blow the crap out of anything that moves down there, but that might not be the most fun for a science team. Unless one of them got eaten? Hmmm....
By 'one of them' I mean a scientist; preferably someone you can do without, Brelev. ;D

Sickbay had been on high alert and was cleared to receive casualties from the away team, but none had arrived. Instead an offer of going planet-side had arrived in the doctors lap, one of course that she would not refuse. She rapidly gathered a collection of medical technicians and borrowed a few personnel from the science department. Already on her way out the door she turned behind her to order her second in command to keep sickbay on an elevated alert status, although she was hopeful that none of the staff would be returning as patients next time. The small team of officers, loaded with numerous cumbersome instruments, arrived at the transporter room and lugged their equipment onto the pads with the help of some of Church’s sturdy marines. “I don’t know why they couldn’t just have brought whatever it was back up to the ship. It would have been a lot easier to analyse.” One of the technicians pointed out as she almost spilled the contents of one of the equipment bags. “You’ll see when we get there.” Commented one of the marines with a smile. Rhea frowned a suspicious frown: marines didn’t smile. All Church had said to her was that they were going to analyse ‘large animals’, which if she was honest hadn’t filled her with confidence in the first place. Nonetheless she followed their marine escort onto the pads and held her breath as the room dissolved into tiny particles and rearranged itself in the shape of a densely forested class M planet. “Doctor, welcome.” Church said coming over to Rhea and greeting her. The doctor acknowledged him and then peered over his shoulder at an object that closely resembled a dead hairy elephant. “Lt Brelev has almost completed her studies of the creature.” Church continued, “So if I could ask you to please hurry.” Rhea understood. “Of course Lt. I take you are expecting company?” She asked, already walking towards the creature. “Well we did just shoot one of them, and we have no idea how many others are out there.” He warned her with a solemn look. Rhea got to work straight away, taking samples of various bodily fluids. Placing them into a secure container she paused suddenly, noticing the creatures ‘hands’. It had 5 elongated digits, one almost resembling a thumb claw, and the spaces between them were intertwined together making them almost webbed. “Well this is interesting…” She muttered to noone in particular as she stepped over the creatures arm to examine them. “Time to go Doctor Jones.” She heard Lt Church call as he scanned his tricorder closely. She supposed that this guy had some ‘friends’ on the way. “I don’t need much longer…” She returned, hastily pulling out her tricorder to record the shape and dimensions of the hand. “Now Doctor.” Church said, this time hovering over her shoulder and sounding quite insistent. Reluctantly the woman obeyed, and gave the creature a last long look before they were beamed back to the ship. Rhea left her subordinates to carry the remainder of their equipment back to sickbay, taking only herself and her tricorder as quickly as possible. She needed to get the information onto the ships computer for analysis as soon as possible. Sat at a desk surrounded on three sides by computer screens Rhea looked over the medical analysis of the creatures vitals. To her left the screen held a small spinning image of beasts internal organ structure, or as much as she could make out from the small amount of time she had spent with him. The centre screen sported a fantastic amount of figures relation to his blood test results, cellular structure and DNA analysis. The third screen, which was tipped slightly away from her view held the image capture of the creatures hand, which the computer was currently building a three dimensional image of. Without prompting Rhea looked up from her work and sighed. She tapped her comm. badge gently. =^=Jones to Lt Brelev.=^= =^=What can I do for you doctor?=^= Came the voice on the other end of the comm.. =^=I was wondering if you had time to compare notes about the beast we encountered on the planet.=^= Rhea asked, knowing that the woman probably had about a hundred other things to do at the same time. =^=I could spare about half an hour?=^= she offered. =^=That’t be great!=^= Rhea replied and thanked her before signing off. She quickly made her information accessible on the computer network and headed down to the science labs to convene with her counterpart there. Brelev was already waiting for her when she arrived. “I’m afraid I don’t have long, we have picked up some problems with the power fluctuations.” She said in explanation, much of which went over even the doctors scientific head. Very quickly the two women called up their findings, and cross referenced them with the help of several laboratory staff. Twenty minutes later the pair could be found in the Captains ready room, attempting to explain their results to Commander Smith. “The claw-like finger extensions and extensive canines would indicate he is carnivorous, and that is also consistent with his stomach contents, or at least, I think it was his stomach.” Rhea said as her first conclusion, pointing out the extensive corns on the end of the creatures fingers. “How does this run with the giant bear theory?” Lorian asked, a little lost from the explanation. “Well, it’s not a bad comparison, although the closest parallel would be a polar bear because there is no evidence of any vegetable matter in his diet.” Rhea answered. “I agree. His muscular skeletal structure indicates he is pretty close to mammalian in physiology, but I find it difficult to classify him within any of the present kingdoms, there are too many contradictions.” Brelev continued as the beast became more puzzling to them. Rhea nodded and offered some more observations. “On the cellular level he is pretty close to that of an earth mammal, although primarily his cell structure is sulphur based rather than carbon based, but that could be due to the environmental evolution.” She added. Lorian looked a little dazed. “Anything else?” He asked, probably hoping they would say no. Rhea smiled. “Well, Lt, Brelev told me that her scans picked up a water source not far from where we encountered the beast. I would like to know when we can go back and finish investigating.” Was her answer. Lorian made no facial expression. “We shall see Doctor. But no one is going anywhere until this ship is in full working order, understood?” Rhea’s eager expression dropped completely but she still agreed with the Commander. She left he and the chief science officer to return to the problems with the ship and headed back to sickbay. Perhaps unraveling the creatures DNA would provide her with some comfort. OFF: Sorry I havent posted for ages, just kinda got lost. I know this isnt exactly in sequence but I hope it doesnt mess anything up!! Again sorry

Brelev was finishing up her examination of the creature when the door to the lab slid open, it was Katie, and she had found something.
“I thought you should see this in person. Besides, Commander McLean is starting to give me the creeps.” Katie said
"The Commander Is a male, and men tend to unintentionaly give someone they are attracted to the 'creeps'" Brelev replied. "What have you found?"
"But the commander is married." Katie protested.
"and this is a problem because... Oh yeah." Brelev smiled. "I'm sorry I often forget about how human relationships work. I shouldn't have said anything."
"That's alright, you didn't mean any harm." Katie replied. "The same disruptions are showing up in the following systems, most are minor although I wouldn't recammend eating anything from the replicator right now. The one that concerns me is the life support system, The disruptions there are minor, but I believe they may increase in time."
"This is very bad news, we need to tell the captain and alert the crew about the replicators and possible enviromental changes. We don't want to get very specific so we don't cause panic, but they need to know." Brelev took the PaDD from the COO and looked over it. "I'll tell the captain, you alert the crew."
<Tag Katie>
Captain Smith was on the Bridge when Brelev found him. "I thought you where planet side?" he asked,
"I was." she replied. "Church had me and my team come up here to avoid being eaten. Katie and I have found something that you need to be aware of." Brelev gestured toward the ready room. and followed the Captain inside.
"What is it lieutenant, something about the disruptions in the engines?"
"Worse then that I'm afraid, The disruptions are also affecting other systems." Bre;ev passed him the PaDD. "You'll notice that Life support is on there. It's doing alright for now, but things are going to start changing if we stay near the planet much longer."
Loriain leaned back in his chair "This only hardens my resolution to fix those engines then, notify the crew.."
"Ensign Anderson is doing that as we speak." Brelev replied.
<Tag Lorian>
Brelev was headed back to the lab when she received a call from the ships doctor, who was planet side and wanted to compare notes on the creature discoverd. Brelev gave herself half an hour to get ready and joined her, despite the tranporter chiefs warning that she should expect to be stranded on the planet till the engines where fixed, Brelev corrected him that is was the team on the O class planet that needed to ait, the away team on the M clas would be fine and within range.
Comparing notes went well and soon the team was back in the lab. Discussions flew and ideas where raised, but nothing seemed to resolve. "With hands like that I assume this is the planet's lifeform most likely to evolve into a sentient." Brelev added. "I want to examine some of his chemical make up to determine why we have difficulty picking him up on scans."
"Take whatever samples you need lieutenant, I'm going to talk to the captain and see if we can go planet side again." Rhea replied.
Ensign Travek, and Naomi had gone to the Class O planet, so Brelev was left with a lacking team. It woould take longer to get the tests completed, but they wuld be done within a few hours.
(O.O.C sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I hope this makes up for it.)

Katie made her way back to the bridge to inform Commander Daya of the situation. She felt she needed to bring it up with Commander McLean also but the uncomfortable feeling she got when she was around the man pushed her to only inform Commander Daya.
"Commander, we have a problem." Katie said.
Katie informed Commander Daya of the problems that had arisen with the ships life support systems and waited for his orders on what to do next.

Daya was on the bridge looking over the systems for the engines, helping the pilot fix what he could, he was currenlty laying on the ground under the panel adjusting wires. He looked up and saw ensign Anderson standing above him.
He got up and brushed off his uniform, then looked at her
"Commander, we have a problem." Katie said.
Katie informed Commander Daya of the problems that had arisen with the ships life support systems and waited for his orders on what to do next.
"This is very serious" Daya said softly, so that only the two could hear. " i will take care of the replicators, dont say anything about life surrport, we dont want panic on board this ship, the other systems are only minor problems, so we shouldnt have to worry about them."
Daya turned back to the pilot and explained something to him rather quick, then went to his chair. =^= Attention everyone, this is Commander Daya speaking, do not use the replicators from this point forward, that is all=^=
Daya looked back as Lorain Smith arrived back on the bridge, Daya got up and left, and headed towards his quarters.

"Commander what are these ripples, I have never seen so many at the same time?" Lorian asked.
“To the best of my knowledge they are a subspace distortion that is naturally forming and radiating from this planet. The origin of the disturbance is unknown and we have a lot a lot of energy so I do suggest that we leave this system at once.” McLean warned the Commander.
<Tag Commander Smith>
McLean looked over the read outs again and watched as the power output levels of the engines dropped another warp factor in percentage. The Darkhawk was now only capable of Warp 5 in its current state. Once out of the system the Darkhawk would require only a few hours to fully recharge back to 100%.
The doors to the bridge slide open from the turbo lift and McLean watched as Ensign Anderson made her way to Commander Daya. The two discussed something briefly before then both officers returned to work. I wonder what that was about, McLean thought to himself as he turned back to face his console.
Turning back to face the bridge McLean was curious as to how far away the next system was, he knew the engines could use the recharge and he worried the Genesis planet’s unique structure might be to blame for these subspace ripples.
“Ensign Anderson,” McLean said turning to talk to the officer, “How long is it going to take for us to reach or next destination at Warp 5?”

OCC: Okay for the sake of sanity I'm going to say that everyone is on the ship. If you have a problem with that stand in line. It starts outside my temporary ready room. ON: "Commander what are these ripples, I have never seen so many at the same time?" Lorian asked. “To the best of my knowledge they are a subspace distortion that is naturally forming and radiating from this planet. The origin of the disturbance is unknown and we have a lot a lot of energy so I do suggest that we leave this system at once.” McLean warned the Commander. "I have to agree with that statement," Lorian said as he turned around to face the rest of the bridge crew. Lorian had been notified that the first away team had been transported to the Darkhawk safely. Lorian thought that this planet would make a perfect scientific mission, but he could not put the Darkhawk in this time of danger. "Anderson give me ship wide." "You have ship wide sir," Anderson responded. "This is Commander Smith we will be leaving this planet immediatley, we will be heading towards the O class Planet where the second away team is located," Lorian said as he went to talk to his science officer. "Lt. what is wrong?" Lorian asked. "Sir the life support system may be seriously comprimised by these ripples," Brelev said whispering," the sooner we we get out of here the better." "Okay, thanks Lt.," Lorian said and went back to his command chair," Helm take us out of here and once we can go to our highest possible warp factor." "Aye sir," the helmsman said.

"Helm take us out of here and once we can go to our highest possible warp factor."
"Aye sir." Katie replied.
Katie was able to quickly pull up the course she had plotted earlier in the day wtih Lieutenant Brelev. With in seconds she had pulled the ship out of an orbit with the planet and began to aim the ship onto it's next destination.
"Sir, it seems thest best I can do right now is Warp Three." Katie said.
"Understood." Is all that came from Commander Smith.
It took only moments for the ship to break orbit and begin to head out of the system. Once the ship cleared part any possible obsticals Katie pushed the ship beyond the speed of light and onto their next destination.
"Sir at this speed we should arrive at our next destination in several hours." Katie said.

OCC: Okay there has been some inactivity for the last couple of days and I take full responsibility for it. That said lets get posting everyone and since I'm in charge I will start off. Also I like science mission like the next guy, but I have decided to get a little bit of action going. On: Lorian was sitting in the command chair just waiting to get to the other away team. The fact that they were not able to pick up dinosaur type species on the other planet made Lorian worry of they could of missed on the second planet. "Lt. Brelev what is the most we could of missed on the Type O planet?" Lorian asked realizing that he had to depend on his crew to tell help him make decisions. <Tag Brelev> "Okay thank you Lt.," Lorian said," Ensign Anderson, Commander McLean is there anyway to get to the warp factor raised so we can get there faster?" <Tag Anderson/McLean> =^=Smith to Daya=^= =^=Daya here=^= =^=Please report to my ready room=^= =^=On my way Commander=^= For now that was all Lorian wanted to know and he headed to his ready room to await Commander Daya. It didn't take long for him to arrive and Lorian asked him to sit down. Lorian had to ask him what he thought of Lorian. At first it didn't really bother Lorian, but he realized that Daya was his first officer and if anything happened to him, he would be in charge. "Commander Daya, I would like to know if we have a problem," Lorian said. <Tag Daya> The conversation was cut short when the operations officer on duty called for the Captain to the bridge. "Captain you got to look at this," the operations chief said. Lorian was expecting to be told that an ion storm was heading their way or some spacial debris was in their path, but when he reached the operation station he lost his breath. It was transwarp conduit vortex and they were on top of the planet that they were headed to. So Lorian had to act fast realizing that in a matter of minutes they would once again be facing the Borg. "Battle stations," Lorian said as he headed to wards his chair. Everyone hurried into battle readiness still not knowing what was wrong. "What has happened, Commander?" Daya asked. "We are about to engage the Borg, are scanners have just picked up a vortex forming next to the planet," Lorian said as he turned to his Marine CO," Captain Church, prepare for boarding party of Borg" <Tag Church> =^=Smith to Jones=^= =^=Jones here, Captain=^= =^=Prepare for mass casualties=^= =^=Understood sir=^= <Tag Rhea> This was Lorian's worst nightmare coming to life. He had to lead men and women into battle against the Borg. There was no way that they could stop it, he would not leave his officers down on the planet defenseless. He knew that the crew of the USS Darkhawk was ready, but still may God help them all. "Station's report." <Tag all> Off: Okay guys here we go. We're facing the Borg again, but this time we have to remember that we got crew down on the planet. So are we going to try and save them and run or just expose them to the Borg to get assimilated.

Daya sat in his quarters, looking at his console when he heard the chirp of a message. puling it up, he read it aloud to himself,
Daya
It has been a while and I agree with your Mother about our other friend. Sadly our friend disappeared a couple of years ago and I have not been abel to track him down. I have to say that I think he has died or he just disappeared.
Also about our other friend, I couldn't believe that his wife made him go back home. He was heading towards Archer XII, but for some reason he was just recalled. It was totally unexpected.
Your friend T'Brel
“HA, i knew he was with Intell.” Daya said after reading what his friend had said our “Mother” and our other friend. “He must mean that others think he is dead, becuase of Intell. Damn them, why do they do this to people.” Daya screamed at his console.
“Also about our other friend, I couldn't believe that his wife made him go back home, he’s gotta mean he had no clue why Kirk was called back to the station, that means it must be of higher prioority.
“He was heading towards Archer XII, Archer XII, what does that mean? Maybe thats where Lorian is from, or at least where i can find information on him”
=^=Smith to Daya=^=
"Damnit"
=^=Daya here=^=

"what the hell does he want right now?" Daya said aloud as he closed down his console. He walked briskly and went straight to the bridge, where he entered Smith's ready room.
"Aye sir?"
"Commander Daya, I would like to know if we have a problem," Lorian said.
"What do you mean sir?" Daya asked, not sure what to make of this.
"well, i mean between us, the two of us, do you have a problem with me? Is there something about me that bothers you?"
"Well, yessir there is. To be honest with you sir, i think theres something about you that you havent told us. Something important enough, that Kirk was called away, and you were put in charge for. I also think you know more about whats going on then even Kirk does, and that doesnt sit right with me"
Daya stared at him sternly, not blinking much as he told his side of the story. He wanted to say more, but the captain was called back to the bridge, with Daya close behind him. "Battle stations," Lorian said as he headed to wards his chair. Everyone hurried into battle readiness still not knowing what was wrong.
"What has happened, Commander?" Daya asked.
"We are about to engage the Borg, are scanners have just picked up a vortex forming next to the planet," Lorian said as he turned to his Marine CO," Captain Church, prepare for boarding party of Borg"
Daya sat in his chair as he listened to the various reports coming in. "Sir, what about the away team? shouldnt we bring them up?"

"Lt. Brelev what is the most we could of missed on the Type O planet?" Lorian asked
Brelev thought for a moment. "Possible worse, there was more genesis debris in orbit. The atmosphere can't support mammals like the creature which attacked us, but giant reptiles are very possible, possibly large carvivorouse birds as well. When did we last hear from Beta team?"
"More then three hours ago mame." On of the junior officers replied.
Brelev's heart seemed to skip a beat. "We need to go and fetch them, they may be in danger."
"Okay, thank you lieutenant." the Captain replied.
Brelev went back to examining the incoming reports as the ship jumped into low warp. She should have contacted Trevek when she got on board.
Her console beeped, and Brelev looked down. She'd never seen that reading before, but she knew what it was. "Enisgn!" She yelled over to the Ops officer on duty. "are you reading this or is it a sensor glitch?"
"I've got it to, we need the captain now." The ensign replied. =A=Captain to the bridge=A=
Lorian arrived a moment later and Brelev let the Oops officer show him the readings. "Battle stations." The Captain orderd, there was a cold resolve in his voice.
Already in position Brelev had enough time to worry about the up coming events, she'd never faced the borg before and only had horror stories to dwell on.
"Station's report." The Captain orderd.
"Science ready, sir we need to get that away team back on board." Brelev almost begged.
Lorian was to busy to hear her, Brelev looked anxiosly over to Daya.
Daya sat in his chair as he listened to the various reports coming in. "Sir, what about the away team? shouldnt we bring them up?"

"Okay thank you Lt.," Lorian said," Ensign Anderson, Commander McLean is there anyway to get to the warp factor raised so we can get there faster?"
“I will have to see how much available power we can spare to the engines right now sir.” McLean said getting out of his chair and heading back to the turbo lift in the rear of the bridge.
“Get right on it.” Smith said keeping his eyes looking forward at the view screen.
“I will be down in engineering if you need me.” McLean said from the turbo lift not caring if anybody heard him or not.
When McLean arrived down in engineering it looked my a mad house, engineers running around the engine room, frantic engineers wondering why there was a power loss at almost an exponential rate. McLean could understand the frustration, these guys and gals want nothing more than to get these engines running at peak efficiency and non of them with the exception of a few have the authorization to check up on what was going on with the power.
“Mathews, did you get my request?” McLean asked walking to the main engineering console sitting at the base of the warp core.
“Yeah I did, what we can do right now is draw all available back up power from the cloak to the engines, that should increase reaction approx 15%-25%.” Lieutenant Mathews reported.
“That’s good enough for at least one additional warp factor.” McLean said running his chin, “Anything else we can draw from?”
“I am sorry sir, every other system has taken the same hits we are below our fudge area. About an hour ago we placed life support partially on back up power to keep it running at 100%.” Mathews said.
“Thanks for the report.” McLean replied.
“The boys have been talking about you sir.” Mathews said.
“What about?” McLean replied keeping focused on the console in front of him.
“Well sir, about Ensign Anderson. We were told you were working close with her, most of the boys down here think your pretty damn lucky.” Mathews said with a smile.
McLean smiled, he knew what the younger engineers were thinking, “I am married Lieutenant,” McLean said coldly as he turned to make eye contact with Mathews who now seemed to be sweating bullets, “She is a piece of work though,” McLean said with a whistle and a smile.
Mathews chucked with McLean who had finished transferring power from the cloak to the anti-matter reaction chamber. Looking over the results McLean spotted a 11% increase in reaction inside the chamber. He shook his head clearly showing he was expecting more of a power boost from the change in mixture to the chamber.
“McLean to Smith.”
“Go ahead Chief.”
“I have transferred power from the cloak, you can put the engines up another notch if you want. I will be watching the power systems from down here and the second those percentages go back up I am going to put that power back into the cloak, we never know when we might need it.”
“Understood Chief, Smith out.”
McLean stayed down in Engineering, he felt at home with all the other engineers and he had to agree it kept him from constantly looking at the young ensign behind the helm of this great ship. It seemed to take forever but the power systems began to restore themselves as McLean said they would when they moved further away from the planet. With out hesitation McLean slowly placed the power back into the cloaking device, just as he did the call came over the COM for everybody to go to battle stations. Just in time, McLean thought.
"Station's report." Smith said over the COM.
“McLean here sir,” McLean said checking his console again, “Engineering reports ready to go. Right now the engines are slowly recovering from their power loss, best I can give you is Warp 6. I wont be able to get Warp 9 for another hour at best.”

"Aye, sir." Church tapped his commbadge. "Fish, get everyone ready. We need to be prepared to face the Borg in combat as soon as possible. Also, prepare a very small team to get down to the planet to get back the away team down there."
=^=Will do, Cap. Fish out. =^=

On the class O planet...
Samantha Yanaguchi and Even Bennet were patroling the perimeter of the science team's field lab when all hell broke loose. Several Borg beamed down in a flurry of green transporters. Several scientists and Marines were barely able to run away before the Borg started for them. Others weren't. Their commanding officer tripped in his haste to get away from the Borg, and one of the drones reached down, injecting its nanoprobes into the Marine Lieutenant's neck...
Bennet shot the drone, but not before the Lieutenant was beamed aboard the Borg ship for the completion of the assimilation process. More Borg beamed down, and the Marines and scientists, moving slowly at first, finally began to retaliate. But for every Borg drone the Marines killed, two more would take its place. A couple science officers were beamed up to the Borg ship to join the Marine Lieutenant.
Samantha hit her commbadge. "Away team Beta to Darkhawk, we are under attack! Requesting immediate pickup." She shot another Borg, but this time it didn't go down. She tried again, at a different frequency, but it didn't work. All the Marines' phaser rifles and thier smaller, type-one phasers were useless. Several laid detpacks while others brought out secondary weapons - a disruptor here, a Klingon daggar there, and several type-three phaser rifles.
The detpacks were detonated, but the Borg kept coming. Samantha got a couple of other Marines and science officers together, and they began to run from the Borg. Samantha didn't know where Even had gone. Another Marine fell, jabbing his rifle through a drone's chest as he was beamed up to the Borg ship.
By that time the Borg had assimilated all the equipment left by the scientists, and had assimilated over one-third of the team. Even Bennet lay on the ground, being caught just inside the blast radius of one of the detpacks. He was barely concious, the world swimming before his eyes. He thought he saw the blue glow of a Starfleet transporter beam... but it could have been his imagination as his brain shut down.
