Brelev thought for a moment. "You are familiar with earth, so I'll use comparisons. We most likely will encounter large hoofed animales, rodents and the creatures that hunt them."
"Like bears, cougars, wolved and things like that?" Daya asked.
"Yes, I'm we should not worry too much about our safety though, The Marines will keep an eye out for predators, and we all have phasers." Brelev replied, looking around the clearing where they had appeared. It was very similiar to the woods around eastern Canada and the north eastern United States. Rocky, with plenty of pine and a tree whose leaves where a greenish brown colour.
"Where are we?" One of the Marines asked.
"20 degrees north of the equator, On earth this would be warmer, but here it is substantially colder." Brelev said, taking out her tricorder and pointed to the two junior officers who had snagged a spot on the team. "You two take some samples from the different plants around here, I'll grab a soil sample, and Daya you can use your tricorder to see if there is any ild life around, even bugs."

OFF: Since Daya and Brelev have gone on Alpha team, That leaves Anderson and I to take Beta team (makes sense to stick a science person in each one). Unless anyone want to pull double duty, or switch out really fast.
ON:
Fish looked around her new surroundings. There were a lot of trees, so it would be easy for an enemy to blend in. Hearing a sudden crack of a twig, she turned around instantly and almost blew the head off a science officer, who looked very startled. Fish made a face, then hurried to catch up with Commander Daya.
"Sir, would you have the team please be a bit more quiet? I'd rather not attract unwanted attention," said Fish.
"What's wrong?" asked Daya, conerned. "We've got a whole planet. What are the chances some big nasty thing is going to jump out on us?"
"Fairly significant. We are in the middle of a forest, which typically contains large enough anmals. And they have probably evolved to blend in with the forest. I'd rather not make one of them interested in us. We're making far too much noise."
Daya nodded. "All right. I'll tell them." While he was making his announcement, Fish turned to Bennet and Dvinski. "Turn your infrared vision on. Erblend and Pankhurst, stay with the group. I'll go scout ahead."
Fish jogged ahead of the group, making sure to make as little noise as possible. She started making a circle 50 feet from the group. Suddenly, she found the mammals.
They weren't like earth's. "Holy f*ck..." muttered Fish as she started up at one monster. It was about 20 feet tall, definitely a carnivore, and it was sniffing the air, slowly moving towards the away team. All five mammals were moving towards the away team.
=^= "Sir, our infrared vision seems to be malfunctioning. There's a huge blur over by you... =^=
"Its not malfunctioning," replied Fish. "Get those people back on board. Now!" Taking one last look at the beasts, Fish ran ahead of them about 20 feet, calling for Dvinski. Quickly, the two set up a couple detpaks, then ran as the mammals noticed them. One of them gave a loud roar.
"Shit." said Dvinski. He and Fish were already running as quickly as they could. Dvinski detonnated the detpak when they were only fifteen feet from it. He and Fish hit the ground hard, but both got back up quickly and looked back. Only two of the buggers had been killed by the blast. The remaining three just looked mad. Fish shot one with her rifle while Dvinski started running back to the main group, calling for help.
The two mammals were getting very close. A few more seconds and they would be on top of Fish... Several phaser rifles sounded as the Marines Dvinski had called for took out the remaining beasts. Fish slowed down, stopped, and then put her hands on her knees, gasping for breath.

"Move!" One of the Marine's yelled, Brelev heard phaser fire coming from the direction Fish had headed.
Brelev rushed over to where the science team had congregated, all looking confused, and a few appeared frightened. "Lieutenant, I left my samples..." Naomi blurted out.
"We can fetch them later, it seems the marines have found something." Brelev replied
=A=DarkHawk, prepare to beam the science team back on board, leave the marines =A= Brelev ordered. =A= Energise =A=
The transorter room appeared a moment later. "What's goin on down there?" The Transporter Cheif asked.
"I'm not sure, but keep a lock on all the marines." Brelev replied, tapping on her Comm Badge. =A=Sickbay, prepare for possible casualties=A=
<tag Rhea>
=A= Mr Fish, care to let us know what's going on? =A=
=A=These mammals you mentioned are big and carniverouse, they where tarcking the team when I ran into them, don't come down again till I give to okay=A=

Daya was looking around the planet, checking some of the features and noticed it was indeed quite like the planet Earth, except that it got colder near the equater. His attention was drawn away when a marine officer came running over to him
"Sir, would you have the team please be a bit more quiet? I'd rather not attract unwanted attention," said Fish.
"What's wrong?" asked Daya, conerned. "We've got a whole planet. What are the chances some big nasty thing is going to jump out on us?"

Daya nodded. "All right. I'll tell them." Daya left the marine and headed towards the scientist and other personnell. "Keep a low profile guys, dont make to much noise, we dont know whats out there yet" They all nodded at him and he pulled out his tricorder, he was about to pipe up and say he found some rather large signatures, but a phaser shot and a detpak beat him to it.
Dvinski came running up towards the group, "Sir, we got a problem, a big problem"
"Marines, lets go, Everyone else, stay here!" Daya yelled out as he headed out with the marines towards Fish's location. They came from the side and blasted the remainging carnivores. Daya walked over to her side, " you ok?" He asked as looked for any wounds she might have had.

OFF: Lorian, you're fired. You screwed up. That's it. You lose. Let's feed him to the monkeys! *evil grin* Completely ignore the fact Brelev or I should have posted the list earlier...probably me....
ON:
"You okay?" asked Daya, concerned.
Fish nodded and looked back at the carnivores. "You might want to postpone your little science experiement," she suggested. "Why didn't our ship's sensors pick them up? And why couldn't our tricorders pick them up from very far away?"
*********************************************
"Why didn't you spot them earlier?" asked Church. "You had tricorders... my people had all sorts of equipment... I'm going down there right now."
After being alerted by all the commotion from various science people and the increased ammount of excited communication, Church had gone to the transporter room to investigate what had gone on. Brelev had told him about their encounter with the natives of the planet, and from other's accounts Church had figured out most of the story.
"Energize," ordered Church from the transporter pad.
He beamed down about ten feet from Daya, Fish, and the others. One look at the huge mammals made Church's frustration at the inability to detect them rise exponentially. He walked over to the group.
"Hello, Captain," said Daya. "I assume you wanted to check this all out?"
"Yes, I did," said Church unhappily. "Could you tell me, sir, why you didn't detect these things earlier?"
"No," said Daya with a frown. "Neither the Marines nor anyone else could pick them up before they were well within visual range. Add that to the fact they blend in rather well with the enviornment... well, they're very hard to find, until they start chasing you."
Church nodded. "I'll have the rest of the Marines brought down for this."
"That would be a good idea," said Daya. "I'll inform the Captain of what's going on. Better he gets an official from me than a jumble of junior officers jabbering all at once."
While Daya contacted Smith, Church ordered the rest of his team to get planetside. Then he contacted Jones.
=^=Yes?=^=
"I'd like you to come down with the science teams when they return, and bring enough equipment to analyze large animals," said Church. "Could you manage that?"
=^= I'd be delighted. I'll be right down. Jones out. =^=
Church turned to his team. Fish was already coordinating a defense. At least none of them had been hurt. It could have been a lot worse... Church decided he'd need to program those things into a holodeck on the Starbase. They'd make good practice for rookies.

Brelev beamed down to the planet right after Church. "It's beautyful! she cried out as she ran toward the dead creatures side and took out her tricorder. "Did you really have to kill it?'
Fish looked at her exasperated. "It was either it or me Lieutenant, and by me I also include the science team."
"I supose so, I'll take some DNA samples before we go. I know it's dangerouse here, but look at what we've found, any intelligent species evolving out of this enviroment will have to be huge!" Brelev exclaimed. "Give me fifteen minutes to get the samples I need and then we can join away team beta on the next planet."
Church sighed. "Secure the area men, and keep an eye out. I'm giving you fifteen minutes Lieutenant, nothing more."
"That's all I ask for." Brelev replied. "Team, I need you to get a move on those samples, I want a full kit by the time we beam out."
The Science team jumped into action, they moved remarkably fast for a bunch of people watching their backs for giant meat eating monsters.

Katie sat at the helm station on the bridge filled with excitement as she could feel the call for the second away team would be coming any second. Following proper procedures Katie had already started a scan on the planet in an attempt to find any life on the planet. Reports started to come in about large creatures on the planet, Katie again looked over her scans and found herself wondering why she couldn’t see these large animals. After a second look over her scans the problem popped right out in front of her.
“Captain, I just realized our scans aren’t getting through to the lower parts of the atmosphere. It appears this planet is giving off strange radiation that is effecting our sensors. This would explain why we haven’t been able to pick up any life signs from the planet.” Katie informed Commander Smith.

=^=Smith here, go ahead commander=^=
=^=Thought it was best i gave you a update on what going on. When we arrived at the planets service, we detected no large lifesigns, neither the Marines nor the science officer saw anythign on the tricorders, and Lt. Williams had the first encounter with our rather large friends, they look much like the prehistoric t=Rex. no one is hurt and Brelev is currently taking samples. All in all, this planet would make one hell of a survival program=^=

The conversation with Lieutenant Brelev was short due to the fact she needed to be in the transporter room and onto the planers surface in a few moments. McLean saw it was up him to finish up his investigation into this odd subspace disturbance that was causing the engines to fail.
McLean stepped onto the bridge off the turbo lift and headed straight for the science station. While he was performing his subspace scans information came in on the situation on the surface of the planet and it did not sound good. McLean took particular notice when Ensign Anderson spoke up about the readings she was getting from the planets unusually thick atmosphere.
“What do you have there Ensign?” McLean asked standing up form the science station to take a closer look at the scans, “This is interesting,” McLean said looking over the results.
The scans show high levels of subspace disruptions, similar to the explosion of a single quantum torpedo; only this was on a much larger scale. McLean found himself distracted by the lovely smell surrounding the ensign as he continued to look over her shoulder at the console. He let his mind wander into fantasy, dreaming of a quiet moment with the beautiful young ensign. McLean was snapped back to reality when he spotted something that looked overly familiar.
“Can you send this information to my station?” McLean asked sounding serious.
“Of course.” Ensign Anderson replied.
McLean turned quickly away from the ensign, his mind now full engaged on task at hand. Taking a closer look at the results McLean found what he was looking for, the source of the engine power losses. Pulling up a engine performance chart McLean was able to match the current power status with the subspace distortions size.
“Commander, I think you should take a look at this.” McLean said.
Commander Smith joined McLean at his station. McLean showed Smith that as the subspace distortion increased in size the engine power output decreased at the same rate. There was going to come a time that the Darkhawk would not be able to leave this system until after the subspace distortion began to make its way back up from the trough of the now detectable subspace ripple.

Brelev was finishing collecting her samples when she was tapped on the shoulder "Alright Lieutenant, It's time to pack up." Church instructed,
"Right, you guys heard the man, gather hwat you've collected so we can return to the ship." Brelev called out to her team. A few of them grumbled as they grabbed their samples and met in the center of the glade.
=A=Away team Alpha to the DarkHawk, we are ready for transpory.=A=
=A= Acknowledged, prepare for transport.=A=
=A=Energize=A= Brelev ordered, and a moment later the forest was replaced by the ship's transporter room.
"Get those sampled to the lab and set them up for examination." Brelev instructed her team, who obediantly picked up the cases and filled out the door. Brelev caught the Marine commander as he made to leave "Thank you Mr Curch, I owe you and your team one."
"For what?" he asked.
"Keeping an eye out on the mission, and then leting me continue my job even when it meant more work for you." Brelev replied.
=A= Leiutenant Brelev, report to the bridge, there's something you are going to want to look at.=A= It was Commander McLean.
=A=on my way.=A= Brelev replied.
The Commander was bent over katie's shoulder looking intently at the console. He seemed to like her presence because he was leaning in quite close, Brelev hoped he was not that friendly with everyone, although she liked comapny, she preferd not to be touched. "What have you guys found?"

McLean stood up looking at Lieutenant Brelev; she looked a bit shaken after arriving back on the ship from the away mission. McLean heard reports about the action on the surface and he could not blame her for looking the way she did.
"What have you guys found?" Brelev asked.
“Something very interesting,” McLean said pointing down to the read out on Ensign Anderson’s station.
Brelev took a moment to study the results of Ensign Anderson’s scan and slowly nodded her head as she understood the unique findings.
“Now look at this,” McLean said motioning for Brelev to follow him back to his station, “These are the fluxes in engine power I have been finding during our mission as we have arrived in the sector.”
Brelev took a moment to look at the results McLean had gathered during his diagnostic scans of the engines. She seemed not to be a trained engineer, but the relationship between the two charts was amazing, almost identical.
“What do you want from me?” Brelev asked.
“I was hoping you could help me figure out what is causing this subspace distortion,” McLean said pausing for a second, “I have not told Commander Smith yet, but if we cannot find a way to neutralize these effects on the engines we are going to be sitting dead in the water until this subspace ‘ripple’ we are in passes. Even then I am not sure if we will have enough reserve power to jump start the engines. You’re the scientist, I am just an engineer.”

Brelev took one more look at the scans and engine readings. "This must be why the Marines couldn't detect the creatures on the planet. Well lets try and cancel out a few things first. Let's check out the readings from other systems to find out what is infected, once that's done we'll have a better idea about what it is we are up against. Mrs Anderson, can you do that?"
<Tag Katie>
"Sounds good, I'm going to check out the readings from the samples we took. If any of them respond similiarily we'll know if it's the soil, a plant life or even the animales we ran into." Brelev decided. "It could also be from any genesis debris, they have influenced this planet already, there's no reason why they can't be the cause of this as well, But I'll check the samples first. If you find anything let me know, I'll be down in the lab." Brelev headed to the door. "Any questions?"

Let's check out the readings from other systems to find out what is infected, once that's done we'll have a better idea about what it is we are up against. Ms. Anderson, can you do that?"
“Yes of course. I’ll just have to run a quick check on the scanning systems to make sure they’re working properly.” Katie said.
"Sounds good, I'm going to check out the readings from the samples we took. If any of them respond similarly we'll know if it's the soil, a plant life or even the animales we ran into." “No ma’am.” Katie replied.
Katie turned back around to quickly start working on her new task. It wasn’t everyday she got the chance to help out the science department and she wanted to make sure she did all she could to help out. While she began her scans she could feel Commander McLean still standing behind her and she could feel his gaze upon her. Katie turned around to face Commander McLean.
“Is there something I can do for you Commander?” Katie asked.
<McLean>
Katie was happy Commander McLean decided to stop starring at her and go back to work at his station. Just as Katie turned back to face her station the results of her systems check showed her that there was nothing wrong at all with the sensors. She did lift her eyes brow when she noticed an abnormality in the sensors. Katie decided she didn’t want to bring this up with Commander McLean, she was going to take it right to Lieutenant Brelev.
Walking into the small science lab Katie approached Lieutenant Brelev who seemed to be finishing up her work on some small soil samples.
“I thought you should see this in person. Besides, Commander McLean is starting to give me the creeps.” Katie said.
