After catching up on sleep and making sure everything was in order in his department, Church left to go find McLean. Either they would come to an uneasy truce, as Smith had requested, or they would have another round, one Church would win. Either way, Church decided, he couldn't lose. He didn't have any love for the Chief engineer, but he didn't hate him too horribly. Still, one had to be prepared, and if they did end up fighting again, Church wouldn't be caught unready. He kept his body armor on after training, and kept a couple knives hidden on him. Just in case McLean had managed to bring along any weapons of his own, though he would have either had to go to security or have a personal stash of his own if he wanted anything more than his phaser. He sure as hell wouldn't get anything from the Marines.
Just before he got to Main Engineering he ran into Fish, who did not look happy.
"Hello, Cap," she said. "Where are you going?"
"To see McLean," Church replied, though Fish certainly already knew this. "Don't worry, I'll try to avoid coming to blows again."
"Again?"
"Um, yeah. We sort of didn't get along very well in Smith's ready room." Church didn't explain the particulars.
"Hmm."
"Could you make sure everyone leaves the gym alone?" asked Church. The gym doubled as the Marine's training area, if it could be called a gym - it was very small.
"Yes," promised Fish. "Be careful. Even if no one sees you go in, or sees you fighting, Smith won't miss someone's broken leg or arm. The CMO might be a little suspicious, too."
Church nodded. "Thanks, Fish."
"Welcome."
Church entered Sickbay, where McLean was standing over an ensign at a workstation. Despite being a pain in the ass, McLean was a hard worker. Church stepped over to McLean and cleared his throat.
McLean turned around and instantly frowned. "What are you doing here?" he asked in a very unfriendly voice.
"I believe you wanted to finish something," replied Church. "If you want another round, I've arranged a place where we could... work unobserved."

"It's been through a lot. It deserves the Honor of carrying itself in on its own power on the last leg commander. we will release it as soon as we reach the last 50,000 km but beyond that it might tare itself apart." "Yes it has General, the ship and its crew have been through hell and back," Lorian said grateful that his Klingon friend was going to grant him his request. "Ha, yes commander. Ko'Vor out" Lorian knew that they were a mere hours away from DSB which usually would put his fears at ease, but not this time. Lorian was all for the beliefs of the Federation, but he was questioning if this was smart to do. There are so many dangers in this quadrant and so many enemies, Lorian wondered if they could survive. Yet as he looked around the bridge, he saw crewmen and officers working hand in hand repairing the ship. He saw there blood stained coverings and bruises all over their bodies, and still they worked. Even though he didn't always trust Starfleet, he knew he could trust the people that made its whole. The believed in what they were doing and if it wasn't for them Lorian surely wouldn't be contemplating what he was thinking at this very moment. This thought warmed his heart and shut away the demons of his past, but he still had to work. So Lorian made his way towards his temporary ready room and sat down. He would have to make his report to FA Kirk. "Computer begin recording." "Acting Captain Commander Lorian Smith, USS Darkhawk, stardate 92.1222 We are finally coming home after a very hard and extended mission. We were ordered by Starfleet Command to head towards the remains of the Genesis planet and study the effect of the horrible accident on the neighboring systems. Almost immediately then Captain Kirk was recalled to DSB and I was made Acting CO, and I quickly then offered Commander Daya the XO job, which he took, but with reservations.
On the advice of my science officer and initial scans I sent two away teams to two different planets, which were close by. As soon as I did this things went horribly wrong. The radiation from the Genesis cloud confused the sensors and the away teams were put in horrible danger from the large creatures of the planet. The cloud also had damaging effect on most of our primary systems from communications to deflector control to warp drive. After rescuing the first away team I ordered the Darkhawk to rescue the second away team.
Before we even arrived the Darkhawk read a transwarp conduit opening. Knowing this I ordered the ship to meet the Borg threat and rescue are fellow crewmembers. In the ensuing attack the Borg boarded the ship and attacked from within. After exchanging fire with the Borg ships, I ordered Commander Daya to fire our weapons into the cloud which I suspected would have a cascading effect. My plan worked, but in the process the ship crash landed on a nearby planet. "Computer halt recording" Lorian hadn't noticed that hours had already passed by and he realized that they should now be close to the DSB. So Lorian slowly and awkwardly walked towards his chair and waited for Ko'Vor to release the tractor beam. "Captain we have DSB on visual." "On screen, max magnification," Lorian said. What Lorian and everyone on the bridge saw shocked them. There was debris as far as the eye could see. Klingon, Federation, and Metron ship littered the area. "What happened?" Lorian wouldn't get any answers right now as the ship rocked as it was release from the tractor beam. "Give my thanks to General Ko'Vor," Lorian said as he sat down," oh and give me all hands." Lorian knew that FA Kirk would talk to his crew once they arrived, but he wanted to tell them what he thought first. "Sir the comm is yours." "This is Captain Smith...........we have faced our worst enemy, the Borg, nature, and ourselves and we have survived. We have seen evil and risen from the abyss, which has made us even stronger. Many of us perished, but their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Crew of the USS Darkhawk stand proud and strong and welcome back home. That is all." As Lorian said his impromptu speech he could feel the bulkheads of the Darkhawk shaking under the stress. "Captain the stress on the hull is increasing," the helmsman reported. "Ignore it, take us in until the station can do its job," Lorian said willing the ship to move forward. It seemed as those few seconds took years. Lorian than felt the station's tractor beam pushing the Darkhawk into dock. "Captain, FA Kirk is on comm." "Put him threw." "Crew of the USS Darkhawk welcome back home." OFF: Okay everyone that is it. Return to Genesis is officially done and I would like to thank everyone who partook in my first command. I wish I had done a better job, but you all made it great. If you need to finish any loose threads please do and once again thanks.
P.S. don't go anywhere our next mission will start shortly

Kirk had been sitting in his office awaiting the return of the Darkhawk. It had been several days since she had embarked on her newest mission, things had changed on the station since her departure and Kirk was more than excited to have his little warship back.
"Admiral Kirk to the Command Deck." Kirk heard over the COM system.
Kirk sat up as quickly as he could, feeling as excited as a child at Christmas Kirk looked on as the Darkhawk's image appeared on the main view screen.
"Channel open sir." The Operations and Communications Officer announced.
"Crew of the USS Darkhawk, welcome home." Kirk said with a smile.
The Main View Screen blinked from the exterior image of the Darkhawk to an damaged and fuzzy image of Commander Smith sitting in the Captain chair on board the Darkhawk. As Kirk quickly looked around he could see the battle damage that had been caused to the bridge. During the mission Kirk had hoped to receive mission updates from Commander Smith but when no such reports came he began to worry.
"Commander, please dock at docking ring one and please report to my office." Kirk said sounding happy.
"I will be there shortly." Smith replied closing the channel.

"I believe you wanted to finish something," replied Church. "If you want another round, I've arranged a place where we could... work unobserved."
McLean looked at the Marine officer and pondered his offer. He had to admit he did not want to turn down this offer to see what these over rated Marines were all about, but he still had work to do as the Darkhawk was docking with DSB.
"Some other time maybe..." McLean said turning his back to the Marine.
"Don't turn you back to me." Church said grabbing McLean by the shoulder and turning him back around.
"I have to still clean up after your mess." McLean replied swatting Church's hand off his shoulder.
McLean could feel the blood boiling in his body, his anger was starting to get the best of him and he knew if this continued he would end up in a fight with the Marine officer. Commander Smith's warning sat firmly in McLean's head as he continued to stare down the Marine.

Even though the viewscreen was damaged, Lorian felt a great pleasure in seeing his friend and commanding officer.
"Commander, please dock at docking ring one and please report to my office." Kirk said sounding happy.
"I will be there shortly." Lorian replied closing the channel. He seemed happy, but that could easily change Lorian thought as he took his PADD and finished his report as he walked along the station. The Darkhawk was emptied in record time, Lorian thought he could see the skid marks of people's Starfleet issued boots. It caused him to laugh, which made his sides hurt. It seemed as though Lorian once again would need to be admitted into sickbay for a day or so.
When Lorian stepped off the airlock connecting the Darkhawk to the station he saw controlled chaos. There were thousands of people on the station, but all he saw were repair crews and engineering teams working on the station. As Lorian looked around he realized that it was just as bad here as it was on the Darkhawk.
Lorian felt useless as he just stood there watching everyone work so he quickly headed towards FA Kirk's office. It took alot longer than usual, since by the time that Lorian arrived on CnC he was sweating.
"Hear you go Commander," a crewman said as he through Lorian a towel. There always ready aren't they, Lorian thought as wiped the sweat of his brow.
"Thank you crewman," Lorian said.
"No problem sir, he is waiting for you," he said pointing at his office. Lorian once again thanked the young Bolian and walked to his office.
"Enter"
The first thing that Lorian noticed was the mess all around the office, the only thing that was relatively clean was the desk, but even that had a mountain of PADD's.
"Congratulations Fleet Admiral on your promotion," Lorian said saluting his friend.

"Congratulations Fleet Admiral on your promotion," Lorian said saluting his friend.
"Enough with the formalities," Kirk said smiling as he motioning to the empty chair. Kirk took a seat after Smith, "I take it the mission to the Genesis Planet was...eventful."

Kirk sat back in his chair hoping to hear a whimsical tale about what had happened to the Darkhawk, knowing full well that the official report would be sliding across his desk with in the next day or two.
As Smith continued to inform Kirk of the details of the mission, Kirk stood up and walked over to the single replicator in the office.
"Would you like anything?" Kirk asked when Smith took a quick break in the story.
"Anything will be fine." Smith replied.
"Two hot Raktajino's." Kirk ordered up.
With in seconds the two drinks appeared, Kirk picked up both drinks handing one to Commander Smith who thanked Kirk as the received the beverage. Finding his chair again Kirk motioned for Smith to continue with the debriefing.

"Oh, my mess. Well, next time the Borg attack I'll make sure to avoid defending Engineering."
"Blowing everything up isn't really a good idea," shot back McLean. "When you've got no engines, its kinda hard to get back home."
"Really?" asked Church, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I thought we'd stopped at that planet for shore leave. Never crossed my mind it was because our engines were screwewd up."
"I love your vocabulary," commented McLean.
Church had never really liked engineers - scientists and engineers frequently pulled pranks on one another, had a friendly competition going. But this particular engineer was altogether unfriendly, as far as Church was concerned. Church wondered whether McLean wanted a fight or not. He was close to Church's build, with more muscle in some places and less in others, but Church definitely had the upper hand in hand-to-hand training. Unless McLean had done something earlier in his life, perhaps some sort of martial art. Church sighed. It would be so much easier without needing to worry about being expelled from Starfleet. "All right, McLean. I want to get this over with, and I don't really give a damn how. So either we go and beat the crap out of each other, or you shut up and we ignore each other from now on. Which is it?"

Daya sighed, he now sat in the captain chair on the DarkHawk as repair teams went about there business repairing just about evverything. "Be nice to my chair" he called out as one crewman grabbed the upturned chair at the front of the ship.
With a heavy sigh he leaned back and watched, he knew he should get a report going, but his head still hurt from being tossed around the bridge, he should probabally go to sickbay and get checked out, but he didnt feel like getting yelled at for not taking care of himself.

The tension in the room was thick and everybody could feel it. McLean stood poised ready to defend himself if Church decided to attack. Feeling his heart pounding inside his chest McLean tried to calm himself down, the ship had come home in one piece and with a minimal number of fatalities.
"All right, McLean. I want to get this over with, and I don't really give a damn how. So either we go and beat the crap out of each other, or you shut up and we ignore each other from now on. Which is it?"
It was not exactly what McLean wanted to hear, like playing Poker McLean never wanted to into a battle with out knowing he was going to win. Looking over the Marine McLean knew his chances of beating Church were slim at best. With out any formal Starfleet training the only thing McLean had on his side was the boxing lessons his father tried to pass onto him.
McLean pointed his finger at Church and prepared himself for the battle that was to come.
"Kirk to McLean, please report to my office as soon as possible." McLean heard over the COM.
The two men continued to stare each other down until McLean finally tapped his COM Badge and replied. Leaving the Darkhawk McLean could feel the sweat pouring from his forehead, his heart pounding at the actions he was about to take.
Whipping the sweat from his brow McLean mumbled, "Saved by the bell."

'The U'Hitar is safely attached now sir, umbilical tube is now pressurized, we can leave the ship at any time.'
'Thank you son.' Ko'Vor got up. 'Memo log, begin. We have retrieved the Darkhawk and are now back at DSB where i am about to go to as i believe a full debrief of the mission that has just passed is needed. if not i will find out from my own sources. end memo'.
Walking through onto DSB he noticed an abundance of people. he guessed everyone was getting some well needed and deserved rest. the only people wondering around were small repair crews heading for the darkhawk.
Ko'Vor got to his office and entered. Sitting in his chair he awaited an event of some sort. after all the excitement it would seem odd without one. he has become too used to the recent movement of events, so a slow point now would be alien almost. Maybe it was the adrenaline. whatever it was Ko'Vor was tense.
I wonder if there is a misuse on board.... i could use a good Klingon back stomp He thought.

What an unfortunate interruption. Then again, it might have been a good thing. Church would let McLean make the next move. If the Chief engineer wanted a fight, he'd start one. Church would ignore him until then.
Fish looked relieved at the outcome. So was Church, though somewhat less so. Even though it was unlikely there would be any immediate consequences resulting from the tension between himself and McLean...
"We're picking up a couple new Marines," said Fish. "One of them's a troublemaker."
"Maybe he's related to our engineer," suggested Church. "What's wrong with him?"
"He almost got kicked out of the Academy for putting another two cadets in Sickbay. He's attacked his commanding officer multiple times, typically the Marine one but occasionally the Captain of whatever ship he's serving on, he's nearly killed another officer, and supposedly helped several illegal Ferengi transports - Romulan disruptors to the Maquis, stuff like that. Some of the Ferengi disappeared, but nobody bothered to look for the person responsible."
"And he's still in Starfleet?" asked Church.
"His father is an admiral," explained Fish. "He's been able to keep him in Starfleet for a long time, but he's been sacrificing political power, and now the best he can do is ship him off here. The last person our new friend - name's Martin Hayes - attacked was a Vulcan admiral who made the observation that Hayes was perhaps unfit for duty."
"Wow. How can we get rid of him?"
"Well, I don't think you could throw him out yourself, but perhaps Admiral Kirk could. If Hayes ever did anything."
"Do you have his biographical portfolio?" asked Church.
"Yeah, I'll get you it," promised Fish. "Better study up, because he'll be a handful, and we'll need to wait until he does something really bad before we go to Kirk."
Church sighed. "I think I'll pair him with Weta. He'll be able to handle this guy."
"Hayes believes in human supremacy," said Fish. "But I see your point. Weta would be able to handle anything. You should warn him, though."
"I will. Thanks."
"You bet." Fish left to go get the Hayes's bio. Church shook his head and wondered if things could get any worse.

Kirk sat in his office holding a single PADD in his hands while he nervously waited for Lt. Commander McLean to arrive at his office. The information contained in the PADD was something Kirk wished he did not have to give out in person. While in mid though the door chime on Kirk's office range out softly, Kirk sat up straight in his chair and placed the PADD face down on the desk.
"Enter." Kirk said.
Stepping in from the Command Desk McLean looked like hell, his face dirty from obvious hard work, his uniform dirty and ripped in some places. Kirk was happy the Chief Engineer had not decided to report back to his quarters for a quick change.
"You wanted to see me sir." McLean said standing half heartedly at attention.
"Please, sit down." Kirk said motioning toward the open chair on Kirk's right hand side.
"Chief, I don't know how to tell you," Kirk began.
"Sir, I will accept any and all consequences for my actions. I let my personal feelings about the Marines become an problem on board the ship during a low point in the mission. What I said was unbecoming of an officer and I am willing to accept the punishment." McLean announced.
Kirk leaned back in his chair, feeling completely lost at the words the engineer had spoken. Taking a deep breath Kirk slide the PADD across the table, "This is not about your actions on board the Darkhawk Commander. I'm sorry."
Kirk was forced to watch as McLean's expression turned from confusion to sorrow as the information pierced the highly technical brain that resides with in the engineers head. McLean searched hard for words but was unable to speak.
"If you would excuse me sir." McLean finally said.
"Of course." Kirk said watching McLean make his way out of the office.
Sitting back in his chair Kirk found himself gazing out of his office window until for a second time his wondering mind was brought back to reality by the sounds of the door chime.
"Enter." Kirk said still looking out of the window.
"Congratulations Fleet Admiral on your promotion," Lorian said saluting his friend.
"Welcome back Commander," Kirk said standing up to greet his friend.
"Thank you." Smith replied.
"Tell me Lorian, how on Earth did the Darkhawk manage to receive all those battle scars?" Kirk asked with a smile cracked on his face.

"Tell me Lorian, how on Earth did the Darkhawk manage to receive all those battle scars?" Kirk asked with a smile cracked on his face. Lorian felt a bit uncomfortable at the moment. He had just been addressed casually by a Fleet Admiral. He knew that it was the same man who had left him his ship a couple of weeks ago, but yet it felt so different. "Well sir, I have my report ready for you," Lorian said as he passed him the PADD. "Lorian don't give me that sir crap, just because I have more pips on my collar doesn't change anything," Kirk said irritated at Lorian's behavior towards his friend. "Look Jonathan, things happened that shouldn't of happened," Lorian said angry," people died because I didn't do my job. If I had done my job correctly the Darkhawk would of been here when Ikar began that idiotic battle with the Klingons and the Metrons. If I had done my job maybe McLean's wife wouldn't of died." FA Kirk's face wasn't one of anger or hate, it was one of concern for a man who felt defeated and useless. "Lorian there was nothing that you could of done, I have already read most of the senior staff's reports and they all give you high praise," Kirk said," even Daya said good things about you." Lorian couldn't believe that they had said good things about how he handled the mission. If it wasn't for their efforts he would not be here today. They should all get commendations for their work and much more. "Lorian look, I'm expecting the Gorn Ambassador here in a few days, take that time to relax and get your head together," Kirk said. "Jonathan I don't need a break I need to retire from this sh**" Lorian said. Kirk calmly responded to his outburst and surprised Lorian by what he said. "Lorian I know things have been hard on all of us, but if that is your decision I must respect it. I don't agree with it but I will respect it." Lorian finally sat down, he had expected for Kirk to be mad at him and just kick him out of Starfleet, but no he was letting him make his decision. He would choose his fate and for this he would always be grateful. "Kirk I don't think I could ever leave, you couldn't handle it without me," Lorian said as finally drank the drink that he had offered him. "Of course I could," Kirk said laughing. After they stopped laughing Kirk shared his thoughts about what had happen to him and the station while the Darkhawk was away.
