Brelev had divided u[ her science team evenly, and added a few key officers to each of the away team. Herself, Lorian, Katie, and Ayita. If the Captain, Daya or chied Engineer wanted to tag along, that was fine, but science away missions were not normally their thing
She sent Ensign Travek to Mr. Church with the lists so he could add his own marines.
"Hows the prep going?" she asked Naomi and Jallel.
"All the equipment is prepperd and ready to go, Matthew and Larrel shoudl be done by now as well." Naomi replied, the team was living up to Brelev's expectations and worked quite wrll together.
"Excellent job, once we get back to base the drinks are on me." Brelev exclaimed.

Just as Kirk and Commander Smith finished their discussion a single chime rang at Kirk's ready room door. Both Kirk and Smith looked in the direction of the door.
"Enter." Kirk siad.
A young ensign walked into the room with a single PADD in his hand. Walking rather fast he handed it to Kirk and stood at attention and waited for Kirk to excuse him. Looking over the PADD quickly Kirk noticed every station had gone over the pre-launch check list, each station was good and ready to good.
"Thank you Ensign, that will be all." Kirk said looking at the young man.
The young man turned on his heels and walked out of the ready roo leaving Kirk and Smith alone again in Kirk's ready room. Kirk again looked over the PADD as Commander Smith quickly excused himself. Kirk nodded not taking his eyes off the PADD. Just a few last minute details, Kirk thought to himself looking over the away team assignments. Finishingg up with the PADD Kirk got up and walked onto the bridge, stepping on the bridge he instantly noticed it was much more alive than when he boarded the ship hours ago.
Taking his seat he looked over the controls on his arm chair again making sure everything on the ship was in the green. Once he was satisfied he opened a ship wide com channel,

"Everything looks good down here." McLean said to Lt. Mathews his assistant Chief Engineer, "I might take a seat on the bridge this mission if you do not mind."
"It is in fact your position on the bridge sir. I was just happy to be able to fill it for you while you got used to working down here." Mathews replied.
"McLean to Command Daya"
"Daya here, go ahead Chief."
"I will be up in just a bit to take a look at the weapons and shields as the captain asked me to do with you."
"Understood, Daya out."
McLean ran his hand through his hair and he walked to the nearest turbo lift. He had not gone back to his quarters since the staff meeting earlier in the day. He still needed to go talk to Dr. Jones about a hole in a wall somewhere on the ship. Stepping back onto the station McLean quickly made his way back his quarters.
"About time you came back." Stephanie said as McLean walked through the doors.
"Sorry I have been busy all day, and besides I have to get ready to leave on a survey mission in a few hours." McLean replied.
"Already?" Stephanie said in an angry voice.
"Yes, already." McLean replied.
"Do not take that tone with me Scott!" Stephanie fired back.
McLean kept to himself as he was in no mood for a fight and it seemed Stephanie was looking for one. Walking into the bathroom McLean grabbed a few of his personal belongings, tools, spare work jacket, engineers belt and vest before leaving with out saying another work to Stephanie.
Back on board the Darkhawk McLean headed straight for sickbay to attend to Dr. Jones' request about a hole in her wall. Walking through the doors of sickbay he noticed it was quiet, and a bit eerie as the light levels were lower in sickbay than in the corridor.
"Dr. Jones?" McLean asked.

After looking over the condition of the wall and spending a good amount of time speaking with Dr. Jones, McLean left and headed to the bridge to attend to the power distribution of the shields and weapons.
After a brief ride up to the bridge McLean tossed his stuff down by Daya's feet grabbing his attention. Daya turned around with a frown on his face showing the engineer he did not particularly like what had just happened.
"Well lets just see what we have got here." McLean said to Daya.

This is your captain speaking, all stations report in. =A= Science is ready an waiting sir, I'm on my way to the bridge as we speak =A= Brelev replied, she'd left Trevek in charge of the lab. It took her a breif moment to locate the science consol which was directly across from the Engineering consol on the port side. She called up the system report and looked over what the ship's scanners had picked up. over the next few minutes the rest of the bridge crew arrived and waited for the captain's go.

McLean finished up with Commander Daya as the Captain made his call for all stations to report in. McLean listened as Brelev was the first to report in. Walking across the bridge to the starboard side McLean took his seat and started looking over the engineering console.
After a few minutes of scans and checks McLean was satisfied with the results of the ship and the output of the engines.
"Captain, everything looks good down in Engineering." McLean reported.
"Are you going to be staying on the bridge for this mission?" Kirk replied.
"Yes sir. I have left Lieutenant Mathews in charge down in Engineering."
McLean went back to work on his station while the rest of the crew checked in with the Captain before they were able to head out on their next mission.

Commander McLean crouched down and stuck his head through the gaping hole in the medical officers bedroom wall to inspect the inside cavity. Retreating once more he quickly scanned through his tools to choose the correct one. Rhea watched him closely, swinging her hips from side to side as she found standing in the doorway uncomfortable after such a hazardous morning.
“It doesn’t look too bad, shouldn’t take long to fix.” Scott diagnosed for her. “How did you say it happened again?” He asked. Rhea held back a smile. That was exactly the tone she used with patients who did not wish to disclose intricate information about how their injuries came about.
“My phaser, er, backfired.” She lied to him unconvincingly. McLean nodded.
“I see.” He said agreeably. “And I thought they made them foolproof these days.” He added flatly.
“Well obviously not.” The woman retorted stoutly. Getting the idea the engineer gave up his interrogation and began working to fix the problem. After all, it was not his place to question what she liked to do with her walls: she had not inquired so of him when he had injured himself on his. Five minutes or so passed and Rhea became even more fidgety. Eventually she gave up standing still and went to grab a couple of coffee’s. When Scott had finished he came through to the living room and dropped onto the sofa next to her.
“Good as new.” He said, rubbing his hands together and accepting his coffee. “Where’s your youngster? I was hoping to meet him.”
Rhea shrugged. “I have absolutely no idea. I think his father has taken him out for the day with a lad he met from the school, but you never know with my son.”
“Its always the way with kids.” Scott said with an understanding smile. As the engineer replaced his empty mug on the table the ship gave an almost undetectable jerk.
“That’ll be us setting off…” He said cheerfully. “It also means I’d better get back. Thanks for the coffee, and if you have anymore, um, accidents just let me know.” He added before exiting her quarters. For a moment she remained motionless on the couch, wondering what on earth he must have been thinking regarding the hole in her wall. Dismissing the thoughts as a waste of brain matter, she reluctantly left the seat and returned to sickbay.
Several hours passed before Rhea even noticed the time. She wondered how far they had come since they had left drydock. All she had been doing in that time was prodding oval shaped dishes of gelatinous goo. Sitting back on her stool she heard her stomach rumble gently. She guessed that meant it was time for food.
=^=Rhea its Joe. When are you coming back? I’m hungry.=^= Came a familiar voice over the comms. Rhea couldn’t help but smile, he had impeccable timing as always. Leaving her post in the capable hands of her second the doctor returned to her quarters to spend what was referred to as quality time with her son over dinner. Sat at the table, Joe looked as though he had something on his mind.
“What are you thinking about?” She asked him through a mouthful of pasta. The child shrugged.
“When I was on the ship with dad they let me help with, stuff. And I wanted to know if they would let me do it here but I don’t think they will cos its not the same kind of ship…” he explained glumly.
“What kind of stuff do you mean?” Rhea asked, for the moment lost by what he meant.
“Well, they let me go down to engineering and Lt. Johnson let me do the controls. But that was just a boring science ship, I wont be allowed near engineering on this one.” He repeated sadly.
“Well, I don’t know about that.” Rhea mused. “There wouldn’t be any harm in asking Commander McLean would there?” She suggested. Joe shrugged.
“Can we? Please? After dinner?” He asked carefully. Rhea looked at him straight in his eager eyes with a smile that he knew meant yes. When the plates were empty the boy was bobbing with excitement as he waited for her to take him to Commander McLeans quarters. As they walked along the corridor Rhea began to regret her suggestion. If Scott was disinclined to accept an eight year old onto his engineering team, Joe would be mortified, and on top of that would probably hate her. She stopped outside the engineers quarters and Joe pressed the doorbell excitedly.

Joint Post between myself and Ikar
“All stations report ready sir.” Lieutenant Ayita reported.
“Thank you Lieutenant,” Kirk said, “Open a channel to DSB.”
“Channel open.” Daya said.
“Command, this is Captain Kirk requesting you release docking clamps so we can get underway.” Kirk said waiting for the reply from the Command Deck.
Ikar strolled onto Command just as Kirk's voice came over the comm. system. He frowned, now or later?
"Granted Darkhawk." He replied. He would leave it for now
“Acknowledged Command, Kirk out,” Kirk said turning his attention back to the bridge crew, “Ensign take us out, ¼ impulse power in reverse.”
“Rodger, ¼ impulse power in reverse.” Ensign Anderson replied.
“Once we are clear plot a course for the first system, warp 7.” Kirk ordered sitting down in his chair.
“Aye sir.” Ensign Anderson replied from the helm.
The Darkhawk crept slowly away from the station turning around to face its destination. As the Darkhawk turned the Metron sunrays shined on the ship reflecting beautiful red and orange rays of light off the hull of the Darkhawk. Seconds later she jumped to warp leaving only the small flash of light in the distance as the Darkhawk broke the light speed barrier.
Ikar was not aware of the time passing... His thoughts were consumed. They had trusted Ikar to make the judgements in this mission... but their trust may begin to weaken if he did not act soon.
"Lieutenant." He said, turning to the officer at the comms station. "Open a channel to the Darkhawk."
"Sir?" The officer enquired.
"Just do it Lieutenant." Ikar snapped.
The officer nodded and the screen flickered on.
"Captain Kirk." Ikar started.
"Captain we are being hailed by DSB." Commander Daya informed the bridge.
"On screen." Kirk said.
Ikar frowned and thought quickly on the spot. "Captain, this is an Omega level priority. I am sure you understand that means I cannot discuss this on an open channel. You are to return to the Station immediately."
"Under who's orders Commander?" Kirk asked sternly.
Ikar frowned and thought quickly on the spot. "Captain, this is an Omega level priority. I am sure you understand that means I cannot discuss this on an open channel. You are to return to the Station immediately."
Ikar's hand twitched nervously out of sight. Would this really work?
Kirk frowned and took a second to think about it before he spoke up again, "Understood. Kirk out," Kirk said as he waited for the channel to close, "helm, set course back to DSB, warp 5."
Ikar breathed a sigh of relief as the channel closed. With the crew on Command shooting him odd looks Ikar returned to his office and drank deeply from a fresh cup of coffee. Now all he had to do was figure out his next step...
“Number One, would you accompany me to my ready room.” Kirk said getting up and walking off the bridge followed closely by Commander Smith.
Once inside his ready room Kirk took his seat behind his desk and took a deep breath, “I really do not want to have to deal with another Caspian, but this Intel officers no matter rank have certain leverage. I am going to report back to DSB and get to the bottom of what is going on. I want you to take command of the ship and continue the mission, as soon as I find out what is going I will send you a Priority One message. Understood?” Kirk said.
“Yes sir.” Smith replied.
Kirk noticed Smith was being overly quiet today and it worried him. Was he hiding something, Kirk thought? In Kirk’s mind he had nothing to hide, he felt his friendship with his first officer was becoming stronger as the time went on. There was a time in Commander Smith’s record that bothered Kirk. He came across it completely on accident, in his official records he found there was time during his service that could not be accounted for, he just simply disappeared off the normal Starfleet channels. Could this have to do with Ikar?
Stepping onto the bridge Kirk addressed his senior staff, ‘”Attention, at this moment I am officially turning command of the USS Darkhawk over to Commander Smith,” Kirk said looking at each of his officers, “Take good care of her Number One.” Kirk said leaving the bridge.

Church finished completeing the roster and headed to the Bridge, leaving Fish to get the Marines ready and give them their assignments. He reached the Bridge just after Brelev and McLean. "Sir, I have the roster for the away teams. Most of the senior staff has been paired with a couple science officers and three Marines. We have five teams right now, and could add another two if needed. But I'd prefer to leave the Darkhawk defended."
Kirk thought for a moment. "Who's leading the teams?"
"Brelev, Smith, Anderson, Ayita, and myself. All of this is easily changable, of course," replied Church.
"I see," said Kirk. "Five sounds like enough, but I'd like you to keep the others on standby. Lt. Brelev is working with you on this, correct?"
"Yes, sir."
"Did the two of you leave your department executive officers on board?" asked Kirk.
"I did not," said Church. "I left my people more comfortable with ships rather than planetside ops here. I'm not sure of Brelev's choice, but I'm sure she plans to leave someone capable in control, based on the roster I saw."
"Good. I just want my ship fully operational while you are all down there."

Post by Lorian Smith on Oct 31, 2005 17:54:01 GMT -5
Lorian felt like dirt, and not dirt that was benefical for plants, but like scum of the earth and he knew that he wasn't far away from the truth. There he was sitting at his seat hearing the department heads reporting their station ready like he just hadn't betrayed the trust his Captain had bestowed onto him.
Lorian knew that nothing was going to happen until about four days from now. But that suddenly everything changed.
"Captain we are being hailed by DSB." Commander Daya informed the bridge. Lorian automatically thought of Ikar and his damned self. What are you doing you stupid man Lorian thought to himself. He is an egotistical, self absorbed, prutid man who just wants power Lorian thought.
"Captain, this is an Omega level priority. I am sure you understand that means I cannot discuss this on an open channel. You are to return to the Station immediately."
Lorian knew that Ikar was lieing, the only reason that the Omega priiority would be sent out would be a declaration of war or the destruction of a member planet and Lorian knew that, that hadn't happened.
“Number One, would you accompany me to my ready room.” Kirk said getting up and walking off the bridge followed closely by Commander Smith. Lorian followed his Captain to his ready room making sure that he looked presentable and not disturbed at all, but Lorian knew that he was doing a horrible job at it.
“I really do not want to have to deal with another Caspian, but this Intel officers no matter rank have certain leverage. I am going to report back to DSB and get to the bottom of what is going on. I want you to take command of the ship and continue the mission, as soon as I find out what is going I will send you a Priority One message. Understood?” Kirk said.
“Yes sir.” Lorian replied. Lorian would of normally added something to this situation, but if he did it could give him away and that was something that he wouldn't risk. He would not let be known that because of his connections to Intelligence his family had died. This haunted Lorian every single day of his life. How could he be so stupid and bring his family into the job? He should of known better.
Lorian quickly realized that the Captain was still in the room and he took hold of his emotions and calmed them down. Luckily for him the Captain didn't say anything and headed towards the bridge.
”Attention, at this moment I am officially turning command of the USS Darkhawk over to Commander Smith,” Kirk said looking at each of his officers, “Take good care of her Number One.” Kirk said leaving the bridge.
Everyone was looking at Lorian realizing that he was now in charge.
"Captain there is one thing that you must do," Lorian said referring to the transfer of power.
<Tag Kirk>
"Computer transfer command codes to Command Lorian Smith, Zodiac Beta Seven," Lorian said.
"Command Transferred, the current commanding officer of the USS Darkhawk is Commander Lorian Smith."
"Okay now to finish the process," Lorian said looking at the senior staff. "Commander Daya are you willing to do another job for the Darkhawk."
"Yes sir," Daya responded.
"Computer transfer Executive Command Codes to Lt. Commander Daya," Lorian said.
"Awaiting confirmation." The computer said waiting for Daya to except the job.

"Captain there is one thing that you must do," Lorian said referring to the transfer of power.
"Ah yes, I almost forgot," Kirk said knowing full well he had to transfer command of the ship. He did not like the idea of doing it, he felt like he was being stripped of his command, but it was procedure and it had to be done, "Computer, transfer command of USS Darkhawk from Captain Kirk, Jonthan to Commander Smith, Lorian."
Command Codes requipeed
"Kirk, Alpha, Tango, 3-1-6"
Command Codes accepted, Captain Kirk, Jonthan
Kirk stepped aside and allowed Commander Smith to take command of the Darkhawk. After the command codes were in place Kirk walked off the bridge in a hury to get over to the Command Deck of DSB.
Entering transporter 1 Kirk stepped onto the pad and waited for the transporter chief's ready singal. After a few moments the chief looked up and Kirk and nodded.
"Entergize." Kirk siad.
With in second he was now aboard the Command Section of DSB in one of their many transporter rooms. He left the transporter room on a mission, find out what was going on.

McLean sat in his quarters with his eyes closed thinking after his long day of work. He thought about his wife, Stephanie, and his two kids. His thoughts stay locked on the problems his marriage was having, Stephanie a former Starfleet Officer herself did not want anything to do with Starfleet but was the one person who encouraged McLean to go back all those many years ago.
As McLean sat on his couch he began to fall asleep, his eyelids closed and he began to dream about a sunny day back on Earth. The waves crashing against the rock coast of Northern California sending the spray flying across the beach striking McLean’s face. The cold mist on his face was a welcomed surprise from the heat of the sun. McLean looked up form his spot on the beach to watch his kids play around near the rocks. Turning his head to look at Stephanie he could her pushing her right pointer finger into her eye over and over again, each time she did it a chime erupted through out the beach scene McLean was now engaged in. After a few rings McLean pulled himself back to reality, and back to the old cramped quarters onboard the Darkhawk.
“The door bell,” McLean said getting up off the couch to open the door.
The door slide open to reveal Doctor Jones standing in the door way and her small child Joe pushing the door chime with great enthusiasm. McLean offered up a halfhearted smile, hoping it would distract them from his rather tired looking face.
“Is this a bad time?” Rhea asked.
“Oh, no,” McLean said stepping aside, “Come on in.”
Doctor Jones could tell McLean had just been sleeping and felt badly for coming over unannounced. McLean led them into his small living room and offered them both a seat.
“Can I get you two anything?” McLean asked before he sat down.
“No thank you, we just finished dinner.” Rhea replied.
“So what can I do for you,” McLean asked, “I hope your wall is still ok.”
“The wall is fine actually. Thank you for fixing it in, I know you were probably busy with other more important things.” Rhea said.
“It was nothing. As a matter of fact it was a nice break from the boring refit checklist I had to go over before we launched.” McLean said with a smile.
McLean found himself looking at Doctor Jones differently now, the other night he had been intoxicated and babbled on about every woman in the bar. This time it was different, he found himself able to sit and talk peacefully with a woman with out wondering if this peace would erupt into a verbal confrontation resulting in McLean grabbing another bottle of alcohol. Why is it I cannot see Stephanie in this same way, McLean thought.
“The reason we are over here is because, well, Joe used to help his father down in Engineering while he was stationed on a starship. He wants to know if he could come down to help sometime.” Rhea said.
McLean took a deep breath and let it out, this was not a normal ship. As a matter of fact he could not remember if any non-Starfleet personnel had ever been able to work down in the engine room of a Defiant class starship yet. This was actually the first time he had ever heard of a Captain who actually allowed a child on board a warship, due to the nature of the mission McLean could see why the Captain allowed it.
“I cannot say for sure,” McLean finally said, “Due to random change in command today I will have to talk it over with Commander Smith. I personally do not see why he could not come down and learn a few things. I suspect we will not run into any enemy ships on this survey mission. How about I do this for you, I will talk to Commander Smith tomorrow and ask how he feels about it. Sound good?”

Brelev sat at her station in shock, having a Captain pulled off a mssion for a reason not understood was a harsh thing to do to a crew and if she had lost all sense of self preservation she would have stood up and protested, but this Commander Ikar did not seem like the typre of person to be trifled with and she didn't want to be on the recieveing end of his anger.
Once the Captain had beamed back to the station, and Commander Ikar cut off contact she sat back in her chair. "What in the Quadrant was that about!"
"I'm not sure Lieutenant." Commander Smith replied. "Ikar has also relieved Captain Caspian of duty, and put the Station's CMO on probation."
"That dog needs a leash." Brelev growled under her breath, she wa not a fan of beuracracy, especialy this type of beuracracy. "Will we still be heading on our mission?"

Katie had already been at her station when the call for all the other stations went out to the rest of the ship. Katie took the opportunity to speak up and get it out of the way.
“Sir, I have plotted our course and are waiting orders to depart.” Katie said.
The rest of the crew reported in and the ship began to depart. Once the docking clamps were released on the stations side Katie piloted the ship away carefully away from the station. Just after Katie brought the ship up to warp speed in came the hail that took the Captain off the ship and placed Commander Smith in charge of the Darkhawk.
There was silence on the bridge of the Darkhawk, everybody had one thing on his or her mind and Lt. Brelev was the only person who had to guts to ask.
Are we going to be heading out on our mission now? Katie thought to herself awaiting the orders of her new first officer.

"Yes sir," Daya responded, hesitantly
"Computer transfer Executive Command Codes to Lt. Commander Daya," Lorian said.

"Very well, i'll accept the position, but off the records, i object whole heartidly"
Daya and Kirk the office and the crew looked at Daya. "Computer transfer Executive Command Codes to Lt. Commander Daya, comfirmatin code, Alpha Zigma Daya 4"
The computer chirped in response and Daya took his seat, he looked back as his senior security officer took over his old station. He shook his head at himself and turned to face the front of the ship

“I wish I knew.” Kirk replied to his long time friend.
"Damn you Kirk, dont lie to me, after all we've been through tell me what going on" Daya said as he pointed to Kirk's ex office. Daya followed him in and immediatly Kirk began speaking.
“Daya, I wish I had more to tell you but I do not,” Kirk said, “This is all a surprise to me as it is to you.”
"Something else is bothering you, isnt it?"
“Yes there is,” Kirk had to admit, “There are only certain times that the Omega Priority can and can or should be used, and this is not one of them” Kirk paused trying to word his next sentence, “I do not trust Commander Ikar at all, but I can be busted back down to Ensign if I do not respond to this priority request. To top things off Commander Smith has been acting a bit odd recently. I want you to take this offer as acting first officer and keep an eye on Commander Smith for me.”
Kirk patted his friend on the shoulder as he walked past him back onto the bridge. The station was coming into view on the main view screen and Kirk knew there was not that much more time. Turning around Kirk saw Daya exit the ready room and joined the rest of the staff on the bridge. As Kirk walked to the back of the ship he heard Daya as he entered his command codes into the computer.
