After Ikar had dealt with Caspian he made his way back to Command... his Command, man that felt good.
"I am the Commanding Officer of Beta!" He said aloud.
"Not yet you aren't." Said a voice from behind him.
Ikar visibly jumped and frowned. "You are supposed to be in your quarters." He said. "What if you are seen?!"
"Let me worry about that Commander, just don't become too thingyy. Starfleet isn't as thick as you seem to think."
"Go away old man." Ikar said. "I can do this by myself."
"As you wish... Commander." The voice sneered and Ikar was soon again left alone.
He snorted and muttered to himself before tapping his comm badge.
"Commande, infrom Captain Kirk I need an immediate consultation with him."
He closed the comm and headed for Command once more, he smiled to himself. He was in Command and it would remain that way...

"Captain, how are those new Marines I got for you working out?" asked Kirk.
"Oh, they're coming along very nicely," said Church. "I'm still breaking them in, one might say - they haven't had a complete a training as I'd like. But what they learn, they don't forget. I might be pushing them a little hard, actually... I appreciate them a lot. You picked a good batch."
"Are they ready for any problems we might encounter?" questioned Kirk.
"I should think so. They've got most of the basics down. Right now I'm teaching them more about various weapons. They haven't had much training in creating large explosions, but since we're on a small ship that shouldn't be a problem. They actuallly will probably perform best in an enviornment like the Darkhawk. Its small, they will be in constant communication with each other, they're familiar with the territory and terrain, and they know what portions of the ship they must defend. Right now I'm focusing on missions where we'd need to infiltrate or board another ship. Then I plan on going over ground battles, survival techniques, etc."
"Sounds like you've got it all planned out," said Kirk, glad that he'd have a good defense. "Good luck with the rest of the training."
"Thank you, sir,"

Katie finished getting ready and ran out of her quarters heading for the staff meeting on the Darkhawk. While she was getting dressed she almost forgot about her position change on board the ship. It would have been weird for her to show up to the meeting wearing the wrong uniform.
Katie walked as calmly through the door to the conference room as she could. She had run the entire length of the station trying to make it to the meeting on time. As she walked in she noticed the causual mood of the room reflected that of the bar the night before.
Where is Commander Smith? Katie thought to herself. She had thought of all the people in the room he would have been one of the first ones to the staff meeting.
OFF: Sorry Lorian, I have to be a brat!

Once all the senior staff members settle in Kirk decided it was time to get this meeting started.
"Alright people, we all had a good time last night, but now it is time to get back to work. Let me first start by introducing our newest crew members, Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant Junior Grade Ayita and Chief Science Officer Lieutenant Brelev." Kirk said.
Standing up Kirk made his way back to the large viewing console, "What you have in front of you is our orders for this mission. Starfleet wants us to head out to survey a few near by systems before heading out on a two day voyage to the previous home of the Genesis planet."
The room began to buzz when Kirk mentioned the Genesis planet. He could tell this had created a bit of curiosity among the crew.
"Thats right, the Genesis planet. Starfleet is curious as to find out the environmental damages the explosion of the planet had caused on the system and near by systems. Aside from a rather boring survey mission, this mission is going to in effect another shake down mission due to all the refits we received in the last few weeks. Any questions?"

"Alright then, we are scheduled to depart at 1800 hours today. Make sure your stations are good to go. Dismissed."

"What's the chance of meeting someone we don't like? And who would that be?" asked Church.

"Should the Genesis area prove unstable," questioned Church, "is there any help we could send for if our ship was heavily damaged?"

Brelev saw the mission as anything but boring, the Genesis planet was a scientific gemstone that few got to study. Certainly they where studying the nearby systems, but that was sure to reveal a few mysteries in itself.
"None at the moment sir, I'll go and prep my team for the surveys." Brelev replied, she had a handful of crewman working underher and she was certain that they would be just as excited about Genesis as she was. This certainly beat Andorian iceworms. She smiled excitedly at the other officers before making her way toward the lab.
=A=Lieutenant Brelev to all science personnal, meet me in the science lab as soon as possible for a quick breifing =A=
Two crewman, Lab tech Naomi Hart (a human) and Jallel Nor (a cardassian) where already calibrating some instruments when Brelev got to the lab. They looked up eagerly, but Brelev didn't breath a word about the next mission untill her entire team was present.
Her assistant, Vulcan Ensign Travek, arrived first and waited patiently, for the others. Lawren Marrel arrived next, keeping an akward distance from Jallel. Despite having rejected the Bajoran Beliefs, his ingrained hatred of the Cardassians had not left. Matthew Cutler arrived unsuitably late, and Brelev had to make a mental note to speak with him after the breifing.
Her medical team was well balanced, unlike most fields Science tended to attract a veriaty of species. Certianly it could be difficult to create a cohesive group, but not impossible.
Brelev gave them all a brave smile which all but Travek echoed back. "We are taking two few days to run a few surveys on some nearby systems..." Her team groaned, surverys where the grunt work of the science field. "BUT, then we will be heading toward the Genesis planet to examine the effects the explosion had on nearby systems."
The team looked a little more happy, but not as excited as Brelev had hoped they would be. "Now we might not get anywhere near Genesis, but I'll speak to the Captain about it. Neverthe less I'm sure we will encounter something of intrest so I want all of you to do your homework and insure that everything is ready to go. We leave at 1800 hours, this being my first mission with you guys you've got an excellent chance to make a wonderful first impression. Dismissed."

"Captain Kirk is a very busy man Sir, If you would just wait..."
"Oh for the love of all that is good! Inform Kirk that it is vital that I speak to him immediately. This latest mission can wait!"
Ikar stormed into the CO's office and sat down at the desk. He took a deep breath and sighed staring round the room that obviously had been Caspian's... The Captain had installed holo-emitters so the decor could be altered, however Caspian obviously had locked the program, so Ikar was left with a 21st Century style room until he could figure out how to change it.
=^= Command to Commander Ikar =^=
He tapped his comm badge. "Go ahead." He replied.
=^= Ambassador Metrel of the Metron Consortium and his comittee and due to arrive at Port 2 within the next 20 minutes Sir, I assume they will be expecting a formal ceremony =^=
"Well they can go stuff their ceremony. I will meet with them at the designated time. Ikar out!"

"What's the chance of meeting someone we don't like? And who would that be?" asked Church.
Kirk shifted in his seat, this question was bound to come up sooner or later due to the recent and unexpected appearance of the Metrons.
“I have to say we honestly do not know at this point. Starfleet records of these sectors are, vague to say the least. When we leave this system I do not want to take any chances so we are going to running cloaked during almost all the journey, and when we are doing our survey we shall be at yellow alert. On that note, we need to make sure our compliments of Marines are ready at a moments notice.”
"Should the Genesis area prove unstable," questioned Church, "is there any help we could send for if our ship was heavily damaged?"
”I asked that same question to Admiral Jenson back at Starfleet Command, and the best answer I could get out of him was that there would be ships in the ‘area’. Before the meeting today I contacted several of the ships docked with DSB right now, it seems that the USS Hunter is the only ship that will be with in a 12 hour range of us.
The staff had grown a bit silent over the idea of being out in the middle of the Beta Quadrant all alone with out a ship to help us out. Kirk at this time now realized why Starfleet had ordered the new weapons, and shields upgrade after the battle with the Borg. The Darkhawk would end up going on more of these deep space missions with out the assistance of another ship.
“Mr. McLean I want you to go over the new weapons and shields upgrades to make sure they are powered properly, and then report back to Commander Daya to run some simulations on those systems. I would hate to get out in there and find out the shields do not work.” Kirk said.
<Tag Commander McLean/Commander Daya>
“Doctor, what is the condition of sickbay? I sure hope the refit teams restocked all your supplies from the last mission. If you are in need or anything give Lieutenant Ayita a buzz and she should be able to fix you right up.”
<Tag Doctor Jones>
“Ensign Anderson, I want you to take a look at the course we are to travel, I want you to work closely with the Lieutenant Brelev to make sure we strategically hit each system we are supposed to survey.”
<Tag Ensign Anderson/Lieutenant Brelev>
After the staff meeting was over Kirk walked into his ready room to begin the prelaunch check list. He needed very station to report in personally givig him the information he needs about the status of the station they man.
"DSB Command to Captain Kirk."
"Kirk here."
"Sorry to bother you Captain, but Commander Ikar wishes to speak with you."
"Please inform Commander Ikar I am busy with prelaunch duties and will not be back to the station until after we get back."
"I told him this already sir. He insisted I contact you directly."
Kirk signed heavily, it seemed he had another Caspian on his hands, this one though only carried the rank of Commander, Kirk felt he would be easier to control.
"Put him through." Kirk said.
The com system made a small chime as the communication changed to Commander Ikar.
"Commander, what can I do for you?"

Brelev let Katie know as she left the room ---- Once she had insured that her entire team ws on task Brelev headed to Ops. Katie was already there working at a consol. Brelev sat down beside her "Which systems exactly are we going to be looking at?" <tag Katie> "So I'm guessing Star Fleet wants the standard, son and planet types, planet makeup, intelligent species in area, astrophenomenon etc?" Brelev asked. "Yeah pretty much. We should also be documenting any irregularities that aould be a product of the Genesis planet." Brelev sat back in her chair. "Sounds pretty strait forward as long as we don't run into any hostiles. An excellent way for me to get to know the ship. So we simply look atrwhat we know about the systems and plan our time efficiently"

Post by Lorian Smith on Oct 27, 2005 16:56:55 GMT -5
Lorian had forgone the staff meeting, it wasn't that he didn't want to be there with everyone, but he didn't want to see Captain Kirk just yet. In the few weeks that he had known him, Jonathan Kirk had become a friend. Lorian hated the fact that he would have to betray his friend.
It had already started, instead of going to meeting he headed towards navigational control and overlayed a course that would kick in 2 days.
"Computer in two days change what ever course the ship is in and head towards sector 3453, do not stop until we have reached the sector," Lorian said trying not to break the console he was working at.
"Need confimation code."
"Lorian Intel, Zodiac, Alpha, One," Loiran said knowing that not even a Starfleet Admiral could get into the computer's navigational control.
"Computer after the ship reaches the destination erase all records of the command," Lorian said," computer after erasing the command, destroy the console." Lorian hated what he was doing, but he wouldn't be caught.
After finishing with this first step, he headed towards the bridge. All eyes where on him when he entered, but he ignored them and headed towards the Captain's ready room.
When he entered Captain Kirk was talking to the new Commanding Officer of DSB, Commander Ikar. Lorian knew of Ikar but had never meet him before. Lorian was saddened that Caspain had been relieved of duty, he was an ass, but he was a good man. When Captain Kirk saw Lorian he motioned that he would be with him in a minute.
After he finished his conversation with Ikar he headed his attention to Lorian.
"Well...," Kirk began, but Lorian had cut him off.
"Sorry, sir something came up and I had to deal with it," Lorian said lieing through his teeth.
"I have no doubt, I was just going to say that it was a wonderful party last night," Kirk said. Lorian faked a laugh, but inside he was hurting.
"Sir, did everyone like the new mission," Lorian asked.

Brelev sat down beside her "Which systems exactly are we going to be looking at?"
"From the mission details it appears we are going to be stopping off at four systems in a circular manner before we actually hit the old location of the Genesis planet. The computer has suggested large fragments from the original planet probably has fallen in the form of asteroids onto these planets." Katie said.
A map appeared on the station in front of her. She tried to locate names for these several planets but it seemed that they were only sent directions to each system. Katie shrugged as she kept looking for the names and only finding corrdinates.
"I wish I had names for these systems but it seems they didn't bother to give us names, just cordinates." Katie said.
Brelev sat back in her chair. "Sounds pretty strait forward as long as we don't run into any hostiles. An excellent way for me to get to know the ship. So we simply look atrwhat we know about the systems and plan our time efficiently"
"I agree. Do you see anything that peaks your interest yet?" Katie asked.

Kirk was finishing up his conversation with Commander Ikar onboard DSB when Commander Smith had entered Kirk’s ready room. Over the past few weeks Kirk had grown a great understanding and respect for his first officer, but he still wanted to know why he had missed the staff meeting.
Well...," Kirk began, but Lorian had cut him off.
"Sorry, sir something came up and I had to deal with it," Lorian said lying through his teeth.
"I have no doubt, I was just going to say that it was a wonderful party last night," Kirk said. Lorian faked a laugh, but inside he was hurting.
Kirk looked at his first officer with a half hearted smile as he watched Commander Smith’s reaction to Kirk’s very loose attitude. It became instantly visible that something was on Smith’s mind but Kirk did not feel it to be his place to pry into a man’s personal business.
"Sir, did everyone like the new mission," Lorian asked.
“I believe the new mission was received well. I have to admit this is not the most exciting mission we are going to be given, but since we are now close enough to make practical surveys of the systems we might as well.” Kirk said taking a drink of his coffee.
Looking into his glass Kirk winched at the taste, “It has become too late for coffee,” Kirk said randomly as he stood up and walked over to the replicator to return the beverage.
“Water with ice.” Kirk ordered.
Sitting back down Kirk rearranged a few of the mission PADDs he had sitting on his desk. At first glance it would appear that Kirk’s desk was in need of a good cleaning, but after a moment of good study one could find the desk was completely in order. Order from chaos was still something Kirk practiced unconsciously, instilled into his mind during his time spent as a Borg drone.
“I am glad you stopped by Commander,” Kirk finally said, “I was curious to know if you happen to have your inspection report on the refits done to the Darkhawk. Command wants me to send both of our reports before we head out today.”

"I agree. Do you see anything that peaks your interest yet?" Katie asked. Brelev looked at the stats of the planets. "Last time someone surveyed these three systems had at least one life supporting planet... a class M and O here at system 1, L and P in systems 2, O in the third system and P in the fourth. That's relativly rare to have so many ecospheres in one area, and yet no intelligent species has been recorded." Brelev took a deep breath. "Genesis was known for it's ability to speed up evolution, if planetary fregmants have fallen into orbit around these other planets, we could encounter more then a couple of beetles." "Should I warn the Captain?" Katie asked. "I think the Captain is already aware of this, but we should ake sure of that. I was thinking about Chruch's marines. Any away team should take at least two marines with them, if not for intelligent species, for any large predators that will have evolved." Brelev replied. =A= Lieutenant Brelev to Mr Church, please inform your marines that they will be acompanying any planet side away teams. =A= <tag church>

McLean left the meeting and headed down to engineering where he felt most at home. As he walked the length of the room busy with his work, his mind begean to wander and he started to think about his current relationship with his wfe. The past few weeks had been more than bothersom for McLean with the culmination of small fights turning into one night of hard drinking.
"My bloody father died that way," McLean mumbled to himself as the looked the warp field.
"What was that sir?" Asked a female engineer.
"Oh...it uh...was nothing." McLean stumbled through his words and before long he was at another station far from the prying ears of his engineers.
McLean went back to work, looking over the pre-launch check lists that accompany any ship that has under gone any refits. Work was the only thing that fulfilled him, keeping busy was what kept the man going on day to day. McLean hated to admit it there were times he looked forward to the next days work rather than spending time wth his kids because of the possibilities that Stephanie might bring up another fight they had.

=A= Lieutenant Brelev to Mr Church, please inform your marines that they will be acompanying any planet side away teams. =A=
Church tapped his commbadge. "Send me you team rosters and I'll assign my men to them. How long until we leave?"
(Brelev)
"Very well. Make sure your people are armed as well. Church out."
Fish muttered something and part of a phaser rifle flew past Church. He turned to see her seated at a small table, a phaser rifle in pieces. Church asked her what she was doing.
"This one was malfunctioning," explained Fish. "I think there was a problem with its casing, but I've fixed most of it now. Wouldn't want to take it on a mission, though. We should check the whole shipment of these things to make sure they're not all screwed up like this one."
"The whole shipment that we just got here?"
"That's the one. Almost every phaser rifle on this ship could be defective."
Church sighed. "I'll start helping. We'll let the rookies finish with their detpak assignments." He went to collect as many phaser rifles as he could find, then returned to the table.
"You got our new mission plans?" asked Fish after a few minutes.
"Yes. Planetside, guarding science teams. No hostiles anywhere last report, but that was a few years back. Probably something to do with Genesis and how it sped up evolutionary processes. But I never thought of what it could do to a whole species that was already fairly advanced. Small mamals, for instance. They could have been boosted to the equivalent of Earth cavemen."
"Pointy sticks and clubs against a phaser rifle. I think we'll be okay."
"Probably," said Church, "but I'm still sticking two rookies to a veteran. I decided to up the marines in each team from two to three. More protection, which I think is a good precaution."
"Whatever," said Fish, picking up her fourth rifle and checking it out. "I think that rifle was an anomaly."
"Yeah," agreed Church, who hadn't found any problems with any rifles he was inspecting either. "If there are any, we'll know soon enough. You have a preferance to you team?"
"Not really, not," replied Fish, going over to the replicator. She sat down a few moments later with her coffee, looking at the compliment of Marines aboard the Darkhawk. " Let's put Dvinski with Erblend and Pankhurst, Weta with Coltrane and Yanaguchi, I'll go with Bennet and-"
A science ensign walked into the room with a PADD. "Here's the away team list, sir," he said, giving it to Church.
"Thanks," replied Church. "Tell Lt. Brelev I'll get her the list in a couple hours."
"Aye, sir," said the ensign. He departed, leaving Church and Fish the task of putting together the teams for the mission.
